Fort Detrick will host Retiree Appreciation Day Nov. 19 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Community Activities Center. This annual event recognizes retired members of the American armed forces and is open to the public. The RAD will offer the latest information on retirement benefits and also provide opportunities to renew acquaintances, listen to guest speakers, renew ID Cards and various other services.

The Fort Detrick Retiree Council plans the event each year, keeping in mind the current needs of retirees in the community.

One member of the council, Robert Glausier, a retired Marine captain, recently stepped down from his position on the council after 20 years of participation.

“This council is a way to get information out about things available to retirees,” said Glausier. “We have the Retiree Appreciation Day one time a year where retirees can get their flu shots.”

Glausier described being grateful for his time on the council but decided it was time to step down to allow the younger retirees to take part.

“It was definitely a good experience,” said Glausier.

The 2014 RAD will feature guest speakers including U.S. Army Garrison Fort Detrick Commander Col. Steven Middlecamp, Barquist Army Health Clinic Commander Lt. Col. Jason Sepanic and Ed Cramer from the Johns Hopkins Family Health Plan.

Lunch will be provided for attendees by the Community Activities Center. For more information about lunch cost, call (301) 619-3381.
