Let the River’s Edge chef cook your Thanksgiving dinner

If your idea of enjoying Thanksgiving dinner is more about eating and less about cooking, then let the chef and staff at River’s Edge take the stress out of your holiday by preparing your meal for you.

Even though River’s Edge is not providing in-house dining services due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they are offering their annual Thanksgiving Feast To-Go option, where chef Will Hammett will prepare your choice of a roasted herb or house smoked turkey with side dishes for four, eight, or 12 people.

“All turkeys will be finished in a commercial oven,” Hammett said. “The only difference is the smoked turkeys will be brined for 48 hours in apple juice and savory seasonings, and smoked for several hours with Hickory and Applewood, according to their size.”

While Hammett directs, staffers Heather Wessel-Rutt, Benedict Delacruz, and Elizabeth Laiosa will be assisting with prep in the kitchen; with baker Laiosa also preparing the pies for dessert.

“Other staff members, like myself, will make sure the meals are packaged properly and taken out to the customers in a timely manner on pick-up day,” said Tamika Duncan, River’s Edge operations manager.

New this year are “Dinner Additions” you can add on to your chosen feast package. The dishes, which each serve four, include Crab Dip with Crackers for $22.99, or Sweet Potato Casserole, Corn Pudding, or Mac-n-Cheese, each for $12.99.

“If anyone wanted to order just from Dinner Additions [without a feast to go], we would accept that as well,” Duncan noted.

River’s Edge prepares around 25 to 30 turkey feasts each year.

“Our Thanksgiving Feast To-Go is open to anyone with base access,” Duncan said. “We’re also accepting orders for off-site catering needs; customers can call the office with any questions.”

Each Feast To-Go includes a fully cooked turkey with traditional cornbread stuffing; classic mashed potatoes; green beans; cranberry orange relish; rich turkey gravy; dinner rolls; and a choice of two pumpkin, apple, blueberry, cherry, or pecan pies. (The dinner for four comes with one pie.)

The costs are: Dinner for four with roasted herb turkey $89.99, smoked turkey $109.99; dinner for eight with roasted herb turkey $149.99, smoked turkey $169.99; dinner for 12 with roasted herb turkey $199.99, smoked turkey $219.99.

Orders can be placed now through Nov. 20 by calling (301) 342-3656. Payment is due at time the order is placed. All orders must be picked up by 3 p.m. Nov. 25. Heating instructions will be included.
