A late-night fire at the Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall headquarters Bldg. 59 Jan. 22 was extinguished by the JBM-HH Fire Department.
The fire started in the main floor hallway near the front entrance. Smoke damage was reported on the main floor and the upper levels of the three-story building.
According to the JBM-HH Safety Office and Fire Department, the fire is still under investigation.
Also responding to the fire was JBM-HH Commander Col. Kimberly Peeples, who resides in the vicinity of Bldg. 59.
Bldg. 59 is a 120-year old structure situated at the corner of McNair Road and Lee Avenue. At one time, the headquarters was the base hospital and saw to the care of Orville Wright following his air crash at Fort Myer in 1908.
