Licensed Clinical Social Worker Donna Horn-Hooks will present "Coping --- Beyond the Diagnosis of Prostate Cancer for Patient and Caregiver," 7 p.m. Aug. 2 at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in the America Building, second floor, room 2525. Prostate Cancer Support Group

The Prostate Cancer Support Group meets at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center the third Thursday of every month. The next meeting will be Aug. 16 from 1 to 2 p.m. and from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the America Building, River Conference Room on the third floor. Spouses and partners are invited to attend. DEOCS Survey

The 2018 Defense Equal Opportunity Management Organizational Climate Survey runs from July 9 through Aug. 2. The survey provides an opportunity for staff members at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center to share their concerns and issues with WRNMMC leaders. The survey link and passwords will be coming soon. All staff members are encouraged to participate in the anonymous survey.

Platelet Challenge

The Armed Services Blood Program is currently conducting a Platelet Challenge through July 31 at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. Base Parking

Naval Support Activity Bethesda has designated a new parking system to better serve beneficiaries and staff. Carpool parking is now located in garages 54, 17 and 32. The new rainbow parking plan is in effect allowing cars with any color NSAB parking permit to park in garages 17, 32, 54, 57, 71 and Lot Z. Cooking with Spices

Walter Reed Bethesda registered dietitian Asha Jain presents and demonstrates “Cooking with Spices” the second Wednesday of each month from 2 to 3 p.m. in Café 8901 on the lower level of Building 9. Everyone is invited to attend the presentations.

Excavation Blasting

Excavation blasting for the MD 355 Crossing project, managed by Montgomery County, will take place for the next several months. During that period, three to five times per week, there will be a single controlled explosive blast. Alarm horns will sound five minutes before the blast. It is anticipated that a minimal vibration will be felt, and alarm horns will be heard only by people in the immediate vicinity. Substance Use Disorder Symposium

The Annual Substance Use Disorder Symposium is planned for Sept. 26 from 7:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in Walter Reed Bethesda’s Memorial Auditorium. This symposium is dedicated to addressing the abuse of prescription, nonprescription opioids and other substances, which has become a national crisis. The event is open to everyone interested in learning more about substance abuse and misuse. Continuing education credits will be offered. The Fleet and Family Support Center (FFSC) on Naval Support Activity Bethesda offers programs intended to assist service members and their families with military life.
