You can support the efforts of a new area nonprofit looking to feed veterans in need by attending the Cook For Vets kickoff fundraiser on October 20. Cook For Vets founder, Laurie Raspler, said the barbeque and beer event will help her program buy the food, equipment and materials needed to start providing hot meals and groceries to area veterans.

The Cook For Vets dinner is being held at River Farm, 7931 East Boulevard Drive in Alexandria. Tickets are $50 per person which includes a meal from Mission Barbeque and beer from Honor Brewing Company. Guests are also asked to bring non-perishable food items to help fill Cook for Vets’ pantry. Highlighting the event are guest speakers Dr. Gordon Sumner, president and CEO of Veterans Moving Forward, and retired Police Sergeant Robert Bauer, founder of Warriors Heart USA and Power2Change.
