Tax center seeks volunteers
The 11th Wing Judge Advocate Office need volunteers to help run the tax center, providing free tax assistance to active-duty members, retirees and family member ID cardholders. Volunteer income tax assistance representatives can be military members, family members or retirees. Unit tax advisers are representatives from organizations from Bolling and the Pentagon who answer tax questions within their organization. Training for volunteers is scheduled for mid-January. Toastmasters and Chief’s Talkers

AFAS grant program
The Air Force Aid Society offers the General of the Air Force Henry H. Arnold Education Grant program. It’s available to children of active-duty, Title 10 active guard and reserve and reservists on extended active duty, Title 32 active guard and reserve performing full-time active duty, retired, retired reservists with 20-plus qualifying years of service, and deceased Air Force members.
The society awards $2,000 to each selected applicant through the program. The program continues to be offered to children of active-duty, spouses (residing stateside) of active duty and Title 10 AGR⁄reservists on extended active duty; and surviving spouses of deceased members are also eligible candidates.

Weekend ski trip
11th Services Division Outdoor Recreation hosts its first all-inclusive ski weekend to Sugarloaf Mountain, Maine, Feb. 1 through Feb. 4. Sugarloaf has the only lift-serviced above-tree-line terrain on the East Coast. The package includes lodging for three nights, lift tickets, daily ski clinics, dinner meals, access to the sports and fitness club, airfare and transportation to and from the airports. Swim team
The Bolling Barracuda winter-conditioning program meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Naval Research Laboratory pool. The focus for the winter program is training and stroke technique to prepare swimmers for the summer competitive season. The cost is two payments of $40 for each swimmer, with discounts for the second and third child. Airman’s Attic
The airman’s attic helps Airmen set up a household for the first time, or prepare for the arrival of a newborn. Retirement briefing
Pre-separation retirement briefings are mandatory for all servicemembers within their last year of service, but no later than 90 days before separation. The 579th Medical Group will be offering school, camp and sports physicals for children now through Aug. 31. Pocket bikes, scooters not allowed
Based on safety concerns, as well as recommendations from The U.S. Air Force Safety Center, the operation of pocket bikes and gas-powered scooters on Bolling is prohibited. Pocket bikes and gas-powered scooters are small and difficult for other drivers to see and often can reach speeds of up to 30 mph.
