Wing raises more than $90k for CFC

The 11th Wing raised more than $90,000 for the 2006 Combined Federal Campaign, which kicked off Oct. 10 and ended Dec. 8, after a 21-day extension.

‘‘While we did not meet our monetary goal for the year of $105,500, we exceeded 86 percent of the dollar goal, which surpassed the 76 percent of the goal raised last year,” said Capt. Tracy L. Horan, 11th Civil Engineer Squadron chief of contracts and wing CFC coordinator.

The top contributing organization this year was the 11th Operations Group with 103 percent of its goal, raising $34,111.32. Second place was the 11th Mission Support Group with 80 percent of its goal, raising $47,904.24. Third place was the 11th Wing staff, which raised 74 percent of its goal, raising $8,999. The total raised throughout the 11th Wing was $91,014.56.

‘‘The 11th OG made CFC a top priority this year,” said Chief Master Sgt. Debbie B. Taylor, 11th OG superintendent. ‘‘We made sure everyone understood what CFC was, where their donated dollars would end up, and that they understood the positive impact their donation would have.”

More than 430 people participated in this year’s CFC drive.

‘‘I’m proud of the 11th Wing Airmen for the job they did throughout this year’s CFC drive,” said Col. Kurt F. Neubauer, 11th Wing commander. ‘‘I’m confident everyone contributed what they could. And in my book, that is 100 percent success.”

The 11th Wing was able to contact 100 percent of its members and achieved an overall participation rate of 43 percent, Captain Horan said.

Along with individual donations, several squadrons raised money through organized fund-raisers. The 11th CES hosted a haunted house on Halloween. The 11th Logistics Readiness Squadron took a different approach.

‘‘In the spirit of the family of the 11th LRS, we wanted to do something different to raise money,” said Master Sgt. Larry D. Caldwell, 11th LRS first sergeant. ‘‘Rather than just go around and ask people to donate, we held a bowl-a-thon and raffled a 20-inch TV. We were able to raise about $400 that we chose to donate to the American Red Cross and So Others Might Eat.”

CFC promotes and supports philanthropy through an employee-focused, cost-efficient and cost-effective program that provides federal employees an opportunity to improve the quality of life for all.

According to http:⁄⁄www.opm.gov⁄cfc⁄, CFC is the world’s largest and most successful annual workplace charity campaign, with more than 300 CFC campaigns both nationally and internationally. They help to raise millions of dollars each year.
