Death Notices

H1N1 Vaccination Pentagon Schedule

Vaccinations will be distributed from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday until the supply has been exhausted. Eligible personnel for the vaccine with a valid CAC⁄military ID include active duty members, DoD civilians, all reserve components, DoD contractors and other eligible beneficiaries of the military health system ages 17 years and older. You should not get the shot if you have or had a history of Guillian-Barre Syndrome, you are allergic to eggs or if you have an illness with fever now or in the last 48 hours. Holiday Mail guidelines

U.S. Postal Service officials have announced recommended mailing dates for delivery by Christmas to U.S. servicemembers serving in Afghanistan and other overseas locations. First-class and priority mail for servicemembers stationed in Afghanistan should be sent today for arrival by Christmas. A chart with recommended mailing deadlines for all types of mail to various APO and FPO addresses is available at the USPS Web site at www.usps.com⁄communications⁄newsroom⁄2009⁄pr09_082.htm. Express mail cannot be used to mail packages to Afghanistan; however priority mail is available. The priority mail large flat-rate box can be used to mail to any overseas military address for $11.95. The Postal Service offers free military care kits, designed for military Families sending packages overseas. To order by phone, call (800) 610-8734 and ask for the military care kit.

Annual Parade of Light Boats

The Washington Waterfront Association is hosting its annual Parade of Lighted Boats tomorrow, at the Southwest Washington Marina. Activities begin at 4 p.m. with a holiday tree lighting in the park located between the Channel Inn and Gangplank Marina at 600 Water Street SW. The Parade of Lighted Boats begins at 5 p.m. as the colorful array of lighted vessels sail from the Washington Marina down the Washington Channel, past Fort McNair and continue to Old Town Alexandria.

Thrift Shop open for holiday shopping

The JBM-HH Thrift Shop is open with regular hours and days through Tuesday, Dec. 15. Regular hours are open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and the first Saturday of the month 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. They’ll be open Saturday, Dec. 5 and Saturday, Dec. 12.

The Thrift Shop will reopen Tuesday, Jan. 5 and be open Saturday, Jan. 9. For more information see www.fortmyerthriftshop.org.

Upcoming U.S. Army Band performances

Sunday, Dec. 6 at 3 p.m. – Washington-Lee High School, 1301 North Stafford Street, Arlington

The U.S. Army Blues present Tchaikovsky⁄Duke Ellington Nutcracker Suite and other holiday favorites. In 1962, Duke Ellington and partner Billy Strayhorn created a pure jazz interpretation of Tchaikovsky’s beloved classic. With renamed titles like ‘‘Toot Toot Tootie Toot” (Tchaikovsky’s ‘‘Dance of the Reed Pipes”), ‘‘Sugar Rum Cherry” (‘‘Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy”) and ‘‘Arabesque Cookie” (‘‘Arabian Dance”), this performance will be a treat for both jazz and Nutcracker enthusiasts.

Counseling Services Classes

MCCS Henderson Hall Counseling Services offers two new classes in December. ‘‘Life in Balance: Relaxation and Stress Relief” is offered Dec. 7, 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. This class is designed for those who are struggling with life-work balance, would like to feel less stressed, and are interested in developing a plan to achieve greater balance in their lives. ‘‘Healthy Relationships for Singles” is offered Dec. 9, 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Both classes will be held by Marine and Family Services in the conference room of Bldg. 12. Chapels launch seasonal services

Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall religious services in December:

Tuesday, Dec. 8 — Catholic services at Fort Myer’s Memorial Chapel at noon and 6 p.m., with the Mass of the Immaculate Conception, Holy Day of Obligation and Advent Penance Service. Immediately following the 6 p.m. mass, there will be opportunity for individual confessions with five or six priests hearing.

Tuesday, Dec. 8 — Catholic services at Fort McNair’s Marshall Hall, Room 155C – noon – Mass of the Immaculate Conception and Holy Day of Obligation.

LINKS at Bellevue Housing

LINKS provides information and resources to help Family members adapt to the unique challenges that military life presents. Additional upcoming sessions are Dec. 8 and 9, 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Henderson Hall. Volunteers needed

The D.C. Mayor’s annual Senior Citizens Holiday celebration Dec. 9, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the D.C. Stadium-Armory, 2001 East Capital Street, SE, Washington, D.C. 20003. Volunteers will assemble gift bags, assist senior citizens off and on the buses, serve water and lunch. Dress is Class A uniform. 2009 ACS Toy Drive

Active duty members and Families of deployed Soldiers with children ages infant to 14 years who are referred by their units (based on need) to the Chapel Holiday Food Voucher program are eligible to receive toys. The chapel will share this list with ACS. DoD civilians may qualify on a case-by-case basis. Individuals may bring new, unwrapped toys directly to ACS, Bldg. 201, Custer Road, Dec. 10, 11 and 14. Toys will be distributed at ACS, Dec. 15, 16 and 17 from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on a first-come, first-served basis. Direct toy donations are preferred; however, checks made payable to ACS will be accepted. Please contact Leonard Toyer at (703) 696-3510 for more information.

Operation Santa Holiday Toy Drive

The Army Community Service Operation Santa Holiday Toy Drive is scheduled for Dec. 11-13 with the following events taking place:

A 5K Reindeer Stampede is set for Dec. 11 beginning at Spates Parking lot on Fort Myer. Registration begins at 5:15 a.m. and the race starts at 6:35.

A Senior Health Fair will take place at the Fort Myer gym from 9 to 11 a.m.

A Varsity Basketball Tournament is set from Dec. 11-13 at Fort Myer and Fort McNair gyms.

All events are free but participants are encouraged to bring unwrapped toys to help support the Army Community Service toy basket program. For more information on these events call (703) 696-7864.

AOWCGWA Holiday Meeting

The Army Officers Wives Club of the Greater Washington Area will be hosting a luncheon Thursday, Dec. 17 at the Koran Room of the Fort Myer Officers’ Club from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

A holiday performance from The U.S. Army Band’s Broadway Trio will be the featured program. There will also be many Christmas vendors to help with your last minute Christmas shopping.

Budgeting for Baby Class

Come to our ‘‘Budgeting for Baby — Baby Bundles” class Friday, Dec. 11 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Memorial Chapel Choir Room. COR training set

Contracting Officers Representative training is set for Dec. 15 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. in JBM-HH’s Bldg. 205, room 213A. This is a course that is valuable for anyone who manages or oversees contracts or receives direct or indirect contract support as a part of day to day activities. Rader Army Health Clinic to temporarily close

Rader Army health clinic will close at noon Dec. 18. All clinics and services will be closed. If you would like to schedule an appointment at this time call the Dewitt Army Community Hospital at (703) 805-0510. Normal operations will resume Monday, Dec. 21. Story and Craft Time

Need ‘Lady Generals’ basketball players

Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall varsity, female basketball team is seeking players to participate in the 2009-2010 season. The ‘‘Lady Generals” practice on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the JBM-HH Fitness Center, Bldg. 414. Practice has begun.

SHAPE Officers Association
