Applications Being Accepted forVacancies on Charles County Boards and Committees

The Charles County Commissioners are seeking county residents to fill vacancies on the following boards and committees: the Adult Public Guardianship Review Board, Area Council on Aging, Blue Ribbon Commission on Diversity and Inter-Group Relations, Board of Appeals, Board of Fire and Rescue, Board of License Commissioners (Liquor Board), Board of Social Services, Commission for Women, Ethics Commission, Gaming Permit Review Board, Homeowners’ Association Dispute Review Board, Nuisance Abatement Board, Professional Services Selection Committee and the Sheriff Disability Review Board.

Walk For Homelessness
The 7th Annual Charles County Walk to Eliminate Homelessness will be held Nov. 21 at 9 a.m. at La Plata Town Hall. This yearly 3-mile challenge helps provide warm shelter to homeless Charles County residents from Nov. 1 – April 1. For more information, contact (301) 609-9900.

Sotterley Plantation will hold Family Plantation Christmas on Saturday, Dec. 5 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., offering a full day of wonderment and Christmas spirit! Let Santa know what you want for Christmas, purchase scrumptious treats from Mrs. Claus’ Kitchen, take a horse-drawn carriage ride, sing along with the carolers, make holiday crafts, get your face painted, see what you can find at the Scavenger Hunt in the garden, visit the Sotterley Museum Shop to find unique holiday gifts while the children are buying presents at Santa’s Secret Shop, and purchase seasonal greens and hand-crafted items from Sotterley’s Garden Guild! Back by popular demand, Sandi English will perform ‘‘Mammy Reminiscence,” giving a glimpse into how slaves celebrated this holiday. Cost is $5 per person. Visit www.sotterley.org for more details.

Sotterley Plans Candlelight Tours
Sotterley Plantation will hold Holiday Candlelight Tours ~ The War of 1812 ‘‘Sotterley Under Siege” on Dec. 4 and 5. The first tour starts at 6 p.m.; tours run every 10 minutes. Kick-off the holiday season with a historical dramatization of life at Sotterley during The War of 1812 from 6 –10 p.m. The tours takes place inside the over 300 year old historic Mansion, which will graced with period decorations. Live musical performances from local premiere high school choral groups and complimentary cookies will be available in the historic Barn, prior to the reserved tour time. The cost is $15 per person. Stafford Regional Choral SocietyRecruiting Singers for December Concert
It's not too late to join the Stafford Regional Choral Society for the December concert featuring Handel's Messiah. The group is accepting singers for all vocal parts for the concert to be held Dec. 20 at 3 p.m. Rehearsals are on Sundays, and continue through Dec. 13 from 6-8 p.m. at Colonial Forge High School. Singers from high school through adult are welcome. Directed by Barbara Perry, the Dec. 20 concert program will feature selections from Handel's Messiah, with orchestra, and other holiday favorites. Smoot Library Offers English as a Second Language Classes
English as a Second Language (ESOL) classes are being offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 – 11 a.m. at Smoot Memorial Library, 9533 Kings Highway, King George (near courthouse on Rt. 3). There is a $20 registration fee.
