Bags of food for more then 300 families are ready for distribution to families of E-5’s and below, as part of the ninth annual Thanksgiving food basket collection here. Turkeys will be added to the bags onTuesday, the day of distribution.
With Thanksgiving around the cornerthe Women of the Chapel organization beganits ninth annual Thanksgiving food basket collection here.

With the help of the Boy Scout troops aboard Marine Corps Base Quantico, Ashurst Elementary School and the Marine Corps Chapel services, the group collected enough food to fill more then 300 food baskets for families aboard Quantico.

According to Joyce Murphy, Family Team Readiness director, the program started with a few small bags of nonperishable food baskets for families aboard Quantico.

According to Mari Bottelson, Thanksgiving outreach coordinator, the program has now grown enormously compared to its early years.

‘‘Any opportunities where we can reach out and help others allow us to receive so much more then what we are giving,” Murphy said.

Any service member E-5 and below withfamily aboard Quantico may contact their Family Readiness Officer for information on how toget a basket.
