from 11th Wing Public Affairs

The 2010 federal tax season will be starting soon at Bolling Air Force Base and the call for volunteers has already begun.

In February 2010, the Bolling Tax Center will open its doors and offer free tax assistance to active duty members, retirees and military family dependents with a valid military or dependent ID card.

Last year volunteers prepared more than 979 tax returns, saving clients an estimated $121,217 in tax preparation fees and recovering more than $1.6 million in refunds.

This year, the Bolling Legal Office is seeking the help of dedicated volunteers who wish to assist fellow military members, retirees and dependents by answering phones and⁄or preparing tax returns for the Bolling Tax Center. No prior tax experience is needed in order to volunteer.

Volunteer training for those interested in preparing tax returns is currently scheduled for Jan. 11-15.

For more information or to volunteer, contact Staff Sgt. Mireya Nyirenda at 202-767-7588 or e-mail mireya.nyirenda@afncr.af.mil.
