Death notice

Anyone with debts owed to or by the estate of Lt. Col. Jack Randall, U.S. Army Operations, the Pentagon, must contact Lt. Col. Brian Adelson, the summary court officer for the Soldier. Randall recently passed away on Sept. 18. Call Adelson at (703) 693-4826.

Force protection exercise

FMMC and the Arlington County Public Health Dept. will deliver and dispense ‘‘medication” from the national stockpile in response to a biochemical release in the NCR as part of an exercise in chemical response on Saturday, Nov. 8, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Fort Myer Community Center (Bldg. 405).

TOG Museum to relocate

Due to upcoming renovation of Bldg. 249, the Old Guard Museum has been temporarily closed. It will be moving to its new location in Conmy Hall.

The new museum exhibits will be unveiled in Spring of 2009. The Old Guard Ladies Association Store will also move to the lobby of Conmy Hall and re-open in November.

AFAP conference

The 25th Fort Myer Military Community Army Family Action Plan conference will take place Nov. 5 and 6 this year.

AFAP is a process that enables all members of the ‘‘Total Army Family” to raise issues of concern and make recommendations to affect quality of life improvements.

Active Duty, Reserve, Guard, Retirees, DA civilians, family members and surviving spouses are all invited to participate in AFAP.

Rader dental clinic renovations

The Dental Clinic will begin the transition to the temporary trailers on McNair Road, across from the bowling alley, where the tennis courts were located. The projected date for the move is Nov. 15 through Dec. 20.

During this time, patient care will be limited to sick calls, exams, fillings, oral surgery and cleanings. All specialty dental treatment will be referred out to our outlying clinics: Fort Belvoir, Pentagon, Bethesda and Walter Reed. The staff thanks you for your patience in advance.

FAST raises GT score

Interested in raising your GT score to change your MOS or attend an NCO Education System course? If so, FAST (Functional Academic Skills Training) is the way to go.

Instruction is based on an individual’s deficient subject areas reflected by TABE score results.

EFMP presents Autism class

The Fort Myer Military Community and the Fort Belvoir Exceptional Family Member Programs are sponsoring ‘‘Tricare⁄Other Benefits and Safety Issues for Military Parents with Children with Autism and Other Cognitive Disabilities,” a class and support⁄focus group, Thursday, Nov. 6, from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Army Family Team Building, 9651 Gunston Road, Fort Belvoir.

The guest speaker will be Lt. Col. Scott Campbell, parent of an autistic child and secretary for the Autism Society of America’s Northern Virginia Chapter.

Join us for a wonderful opportunity for families to not only learn about medical benefits and safety issues for their autistic children, but to also network with other families.

Reservations are required for class slots, limited on-site child care and free foods⁄beverages. If a child care reservation is not cancelled by 10 a.m. on Nov. 5, the parent may be responsible for provider payment. Childcare starts promptly at 6:15 p.m.

Fort Myer college fair

Unleash the power of your mind at the Fort Myer College Fair on Tuesday, Oct. 28, from10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Fort Myer Community Center. Guidance counselors, representatives from the VA, Troops to Teachers Program and colleges will be available to answer questions about enrollment, courses, financial aid and more.

Buses to Walter Reed

Metro Bus transportation is available from the Takoma Park Metro Station to Walter Reed Army Medical Center Monday through Friday.

To ride, get a bus transfer before leaving the station and take the K-1 or K-2 bus during rush hour. During non-rush hours, take the 52 or 54 bus. Bus fares require exact change.

There is also a shuttle bus that runs from Fort Belvoir to Walter Reed. This bus is available to personnel who hold a Department of Defense ID card.

The bus departs from DeWitt Army Medical Center at 8:15 a.m., departs Fort Myer’s Rader Clinic at 9 a.m. and arrives at Walter Reed at 10 a.m. The next departure from DeWitt is 11:55 a.m. Fort Myer at 12:15 p.m., arriving at Walter Reed at 1:15 p.m.

Health Fair

The Fort Myer Exceptional Family Member Program and Army National Guard Readiness Center, Arlington, Va., will sponsor their annual Health, Community Support and Craft FairOct. 23 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Guard’s Readiness Center.

Since there is no on-site parking, free shuttle transportation will be provided from Fort Myer’s Memorial Chapel (across from the PX) to the center and return from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Seventy vendors will provide a variety of free health screenings, such as non-fasting cholesterol and blood sugar, hearing, vision, skin cancer, blood pressure and bone density.

Free flu immunizations will be offered to active duty, family members, and DoD civilians, pending availability of vaccine.

Women’s Transition Group

Andrew Rader U.S. Army Health Clinic Behavioral Health Services is offering a Women’s Mid-Life Transition Group for women who are ages 45 to 70.

This will be a semi-structured group that focuses on adapting to the changes in health, career⁄lifestyle, finance and relationships that are inherent in this life stage.

If you are interested in learning with and from other women who are engaging these realities, call (703) 696-3456 and request an intake appointment. A social worker will meet with you to explore your interest and share more details.

Green to Gold briefing

If you’re a quality enlisted Soldier with officer potential and have served at least two years on active duty, then you are allowed to participate and enroll in the Army ROTC Green to Gold program.

ACS Adopt-a-Family

ACS is seeking individuals and organizations to adopt military families for the holidays.

Soldiers and families in this program will receive specific gift donations to include food for their children from agencies and individuals alike (gift certificates may be used for food items).

Once you have volunteered to become a donor, an ACS Adopt-A-Family representative will provide you with the children’s’ ‘‘wish list” and other details. The deadline for gifts to be turned in to ACS is Friday, Dec. 14.

The Joint Employment Transition Services and the USO of Metropolitan Washington are hosting a job fair on Oct. 31 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Spates Community Club, 214 McNair Road, Fort Myer, Va.

Dozens of employers, including area police and fire departments, federal agencies, health care agencies, defense and government contractors, are participating to discuss job openings with candidates.
