Domestic violence

It is Domestic Violence Prevention Month and Army Community Service is sponsoring ‘‘Lunch and a Movie” event Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Doss Memorial Hall (Bldg. 17), ACS. Safety awards

The Installation Safety Awards Ceremony will be Oct. 22 as part of the Fall Safety Awareness Fair in the Old Red Cross Bldg. (Bldg. 41) from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Submit nominations for individuals who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to promote safety at Walter Reed to the Installation Safety Office. Awards to be presented include Certificates of Merit for Safety and Certificates of Achievement in Safety. For more information, contact Donald Graham at (202) 782-1514. Provide the nominee’s name, a brief citation stating his or her contributions, and your contact information. Submit all nominations to the Installation Safety Office no later than Wednesday.

Antiterrorism exercise

Walter Reed Army Medical Center will conduct an installation-wide force protection antiterrorism exercise Oct. 30. During the exercise, most facilities and services on the main Walter Reed campus will be supporting the exercise. From 8 to 11:30 a.m., non-emergency vehicle and pedestrian movement on the main Walter Reed campus will be limited; installation access will be restricted; and routine customer service will be delayed. Emergencies will take priority over the exercise. Normal services will resume by noon.

Prostate cancer support group

The Walter Reed Prostate Cancer Support Group meets twice during October. The support group’s two informal discussion meetings will be on Wednesday at the Center for Prostate Disease Research (Ward 56). Volunteers needed for study

Volunteers are needed for a hearing study at Walter Reed. The purpose of the study is to determine if Soldiers who have experienced exposure to blasts (while serving in war) are more likely to develop difficulty understanding speech compared to people without the blast exposure. Operations Iraqi and Enduring Freedom Soldiers exposed to blasts within the past year while serving in Iraq or Afghanistan are invited to participate in a research study being conducted at the Army Audiology & Speech Center. Free golf tourney for WTs

American Legion’s Heroes to Hometown’s Golf Classic and Career Fair is Monday at Andrews Air Force Base, Md. There’s no cost for Warriors in Transition. ‘Green’ transition fair

Walter Reed’s Garrison’s Transition Employment Assistance Management Service (TEAMS) program hosts ‘‘Going Green” Transition Fair Oct. 15 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in Delano Hall (Bldg. 11), second-floor conference center. Army Substance Abuse

Unit Prevention Leader (UPL) Certification Training is Oct. 13-17 in Delano Hall (Bldg. 11). Potential UPLs receive 40 hours of instruction in biochemical testing procedures, instructor training and prevention training of alcohol and other illicit drugs to become a commander’s subject matter expert within the Army Substance Abuse Program.
