Guests enjoy the displays and booths on the Washington Navy Yard during last year’s Navy Day in D.C. celebration. This year’s event, Oct. 11, will feature even more displays and exhibitors as well as extended visiting hours on the Yard.
Washington Navy Yard will open its gates to the public Oct. 11, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., in conjunction with the second annual ‘‘Navy Day in D.C.”
The event is a partnership effort between the U.S. Navy Memorial and Naval Support Activity Washington, and will help celebrate the Navy’s 233rd birthday. The birthday events also include a ‘‘Navy Birthday Concert” at DAR Constitution Hall sponsored by the Chief of Naval Operations Oct. 18.
All events are free and open to the public, but tickets are required for the band concert. Free tickets are available at www.navyband.navy.mil.
For more information about events at the Navy Memorial, visit their Web site, www.navymemorial.org and follow the events link.
Events and displays on the Washington Navy Yard will take place along the Anacostia River waterfront area, close to the Display Ship Barry, and at the Navy Museum. Before opening to the public the 10th Annual NJROTC Color Guard Drill Meet, featuring teams from the Mid-Atlantic region competing for the honor to present colors at the Navy Birthday Ball, will start at 8:30 a.m. A performance by the elite U.S. Navy Ceremonial Guard Drill team comes right after opening ceremonies at 11 a.m.
There will also be many displays from tenant activities on the WNY including Naval Criminal Investigative Service, Naval Sea Systems Command, the WNY Fire Department and others. Please visit the following Web site for the most up to date information about new displays and other important information: www.cnic.navy.mil⁄ndw⁄index.htm.
