AFAP conference
The 25th Fort Myer Military Community Army Family Action Plan conference will take place Nov. 5 and 6 this year.
AFAP is a process that enables all members of the ‘‘Total Army Family” to raise issues of concern and make recommendations to affect quality of life improvements. Active Duty, Reserve, Guard, Retirees, DA civilians, family members, and surviving spouses are all invited to participate in AFAP.

Commanders training course
The JFHQ-NCR⁄MDW Commanders’ and First Sergeants’ Training Course dates are Sept. 29 through Oct. 1. The course will be held at the Fort Myer Chapel, across from the Post Exchange.
The course is designed to acquaint new and prospective company leaders with some of the challenges of command and with the resources available to them as a company commander in the National Capital Region. MDW regulation requires all JFHQ-NCR⁄MDW company commanders and first sergeants to attend this training.

CIF closure
The FMMC Central Issue Facility, Fort Myer’s Building 313, will be closed Sept. 22 through Oct. 3, to meet annual 100 percent inventory mission requirement.
Green to Gold briefing
If you’re a quality enlisted Soldier with officer potential and have served at least two years on active duty, then you are allowed to voluntarily participate and enroll in Army ROTC through the Green to Gold program.
The Georgetown University scholarship and enrollment officer, Capt. Zˆey Jackson, presents Green to Gold briefings every Thursday from noon to 1 p.m at the Fort Myer Education Center.

S.O.L.V.E. Class
ACS Family Advocacy Program is offering a free class where parents will learn this unique problem solving technique for addressing your unique toddler's problematic behaviors.
The two week series will focus on a five-step program designed to help solve problem behaviors, win children’s cooperation, and build self esteem in your child.
Each letter in the word ‘‘solve” stands for a different step in the program. Our next class will be held Sept. 29 from 4 to 6 p.m. in the ACS Classroom.

Hispanic Heritage Fiesta
The FMMC Hispanic Heritage Month Observance is today at the Fort Myer Community Center (Bldg. 405), from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The guest speaker is Mauricio Velasquez, the president of the Diversity Training Group. There will be ethnic food sampling provided by El Taco Rico from Triangle, Va, there will also be a live band, ‘‘Kris Diaz and the Latin Sound Band,” out of Temple Hills, Md.

Fort Myer bus stops
To accommodate the new Child Development Center on Carpenter Road, Arlington Public Schools Transportation Department has extended their bus route to drop off elementary (K-6) and pre-school students at the CDC, rather than the existing bus stop at School Lane and Sheridan Road.
Middle and high school students must continue to use the existing bus stop; they will not be picked up at the CDC.

Buses to Walter Reed
Metro Bus transportation is available from the Takoma Park Metro Station to Walter Reed Army Medical Center Monday through Friday.
To ride, get a bus transfer before leaving the station and take the K-1 or K-2 bus during rush hour. During non-rush hours, take the 52 or 54 bus. Bus fares require exact change.
There is also a shuttle bus that runs from Fort Belvoir to Walter Reed Army Medical Center. This bus is available to personnel who hold a Department of Defense ID card.
The bus departs from DeWitt Army Medical Center at 8:15 a.m., departs Fort Myer’s Rader Clinic at 9 a.m. and arrives at Walter Reed at 10 a.m. The next departure from DeWitt is 11:55 a.m. Fort Myer at 12:15 p.m., arriving at Walter Reed at 1:15 p.m.
