September means the start of football season, and the Washington Area Military Athletic Conference Warriors, featuring players from Walter Reed, is ready for action, said coach Corey Owens.
The Warriors compete with NCAA Division III colleges and universities in the Seaboard Athletic Conference. “In the off-season, the whole team focused on winning the conference championship,”Owens said.
The season kickoff is a conference away game against George Washington University in Fairfax, Va. Saturday at 3 p.m.
Success has been hard to achieve for the Warriors. Owens said the team hasn’t won the conference since the 1970s, and hasn’t really challeged since the 90s.
“The first game being a conference game against GW makes it mean that much more.
The next games are at Wesley College Sept. 20, at University of Maryland-Eastern Shore Sept. 27, and away at conference foe Frostburg University Oct. 12.
The season’s first home game is against conference opponent Radford University at Coolidge High School at 7 p.m. (Stripe)
