Emergency response exercise
The Fort Myer Directorate of Plans, Training, Mobilization and Security (DPTMS) is holding an emergency response exercise on Thursday, Aug. 14 from 8 a.m. to noon in the Summerall Field parking lot.
As a result, some traffic on post will be redirected; there will be signs posted to warn drivers.
Veterans career fair
RecruitMilitary is hosting a free hiring event for veterans, personnel who are transitioning from active duty, Reserves, Guard and military spouses along with the President’s National Hire Veterans Committee (DOL), the American Legion and the MSCCN (Military Spouse Corporate Career Network).

Prostate cancer screening
In support of September’s Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, Walter Reed’s Urology Clinic and Department of Defense Center for Prostate Disease Research will conduct their annual prostate cancer screening for military health care beneficiaries on Saturday, Sept. 20, from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m.
The screening will take place at the Center for Prostate Disease Research on Ward 56 (5th floor). Appointments are required. Please call (202) 782-4000 for an appointment or for more information.
Screening appointments are also available during normal duty hours at the Prostate Center and Urology Clinic, (202) 782-6406. A referral from a primary provider is not required. For men diagnosed with prostate cancer, treatment and care are available at Walter Reed through the Urology Clinic and Center for Prostate Disease Research.
Clinic closure
The Allergy Clinic at the Andrew Rader U.S. Army Clinic will be closed on Aug. 15. It will resume normal business hours the following day.
Centennial of Military Aviation
The Centennial of Military Aviation, to be held Saturday, Sept. 6, is a day-long open house celebrating the 100 year anniversary when the U.S. Army entered into an agreement with the Wright Brothers to test their flyer at Fort Myer in 1908.
Events include an opening ceremony with aerial flyover, a reproduction of the 1908 Wright Flyer, historic demonstrations, service aviation displays, musical performances and other family activities.
General parking will be available at Pentagon North Parking. Buses will transport attendees to and from Fort Myer. Shuttle Service will also be available from Fort Myer's Wright Gate, for walk-in traffic from Rosslyn.

Rock, roll and run
RunStock is a 5K concert race through the most scenic areas of Quantico Marine Base with five acts performing along the 3.1-mile course and a concert at the finish — with well-known D.C. rock⁄pop band Gonzo's Nose and local ‘‘island” band B2B.

Green to Gold briefing

Parenting can be a stressful situation for any parent; even more so for single parents.

Buses to Walter Reed
Metro Bus transportation is available from the Takoma Park Metro Station to Walter Reed Army Medical Center Monday through Friday.
To ride, get a bus transfer before leaving the station and take the K-1 or K-2 bus during rush hour. During non-rush hours, take the 52 or 54 bus. Bus fares require exact change.
There is also a shuttle bus that runs from Fort Belvoir to Walter Reed Army Medical Center. This bus is available to personnel who hold a Department of Defense ID card.
The bus departs from DeWitt Army Medical Center at 8:15 a.m., departs Fort Myer’s Rader Clinic at 9 a.m. and arrives at Walter Reed at 10 a.m. The next departure from DeWitt is 11:55 a.m. Fort Myer at 12:15 p.m., arriving at Walter Reed at 1:15 p.m.

If you’re an active duty or retired officer or civilian equivalent and served at SHAPE, its subordinate commands or NATO, you are invited to join the SHAPE Officers Association (SOA).
