Book Donations

Books for International Goodwill, B.I.G., has shipped over 2.8 million used books to U.S. troops in Iraq, libraries in Third World countries, and Native American reservations in the United States. In cooperation with MAG, this Rotary-funded project will again collect used general reading and textbooks at the end of the semester. Collection boxes will be available near book buy back, and the front entrance of Nimitz Library until May 20. Your books could make a difference in the life of students around the world. B.I.G can find a new home for all books except those with specific professional naval application.

Alumni Association Annapolis Chapter

A luncheon will be held May 15, from 11:45 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. at the Annapolis Fleet Reserve Club. Dr. Kim Holmes, author of ‘‘Liberty’s Best Hope: American Leadership for the 21st Century” will address the crowd. As the Vice President of Foreign and Defense Policy Studies at The Heritage Foundation, Dr. Holmes is one of Washington’s foremost policy experts. Cost is $25 per person for Annapolis Chapter members, and $30 per person for non-members. Naval Academy Band Performance

The Naval Academy Band will present a concert May 9 at 7:30 p.m. in Mahan Hall. The program will include such transcriptions from the orchestral repertoire as ''Festive Overture'' by Dmitri Shostakovich, the Richard Strauss tone poem, ''Till Eulenspiegel’s Merry Pranks,'' and ''Finale from Symphony #8'' by Antonin Dvorak. Musician 1st Class Jessica Hatfield will perform an operatic aria as well as jazz standards. Naval Academy Band concerts are free and open to the public with no tickets required. AT&T National Golf Tournament

The Tiger Woods Foundation is offering free tickets to active duty military for all days of the 2nd Annual AT&T National Golf Tournament, scheduled for July 2 - 6 at the Congressional County Club, Bethesda, Md. The limit is two tickets per person per day. Free tickets for July 2-4 are available for all other DoD personnel (reservists, retired, National Guard and DoD civilian personnel) with a limit of two tickets per person per day. The free tickets must be picked up in person from the MWR Annapolis Information, Tickets and Travel Outlet (ITT) in the Recreational Services Bldg. #89, NSA Annapolis, Monday through Friday from 5:30 a.m. - 8 p.m. Personnel not eligible for the free tickets, or active duty who want more than the allotted two tickets, can order discounted tickets immediately through the MWR Annapolis ITT Outlet or by phone at 410-293-9200. Cost is $25.75 per ticket (gate price-$30). Tickets must be picked up at the ITT Outlet.

Armed Forces America Kids Run

The Billy the Kid Youth Center will host the annual Armed Forces America Kids Run May 15 at 4:30 p.m. at the North Severn Picnic Pavilion, NSA Annapolis. The run is part of a Navy-wide program designed to introduce running as a fun and healthy activity for children. It is held in commemoration of Armed Forces Day with participation being the primary goal of the program. The run is open to all DoD children from 5 to 13 years old with the length of the course broken out by age groups: 5-6 (1⁄2 mile); 7-8 (1 mile) and 9-13 (up to 2 miles). There is no entrance fee, however children must be signed up by their parents at the Youth Center, #126 Alder Road, NSA Annapolis by May 13. T-shirts will be given to all run participants and trophies will be awarded to 1st and 2nd place winners in each age category. For information, call 410-293-4998.
