E-Mail This Article Print This Story
1⁄C Mike Eady, 2nd Co.

A Marine Corps ground selectee and history major, Midn. 1⁄C Michael Eady has assumed a humble attitude while attempting to interact with as many Midshipmen on the Yard as possible. By establishing a mutual understanding between company-mates, Eady performed admirably as the 2nd Company Executive Officer.

''He is quite possibly the most highly-motivated, performance-driven, impeccably well-kempt, personable Midshipman that I have had the experience of mentoring while I’ve been at this institution,'' said 2nd Company Senior Enlisted Leader Senior Chief Gunner’s Mate (SW) Tom Becker.

Like the Marine officers he has learned from, Eady does his job with vigor, stating that the mission most certainly comes first.

''Service over self is always at the forefront of his motivation,'' said Becker.

Eady, of Middleton, Ky., leads with the belief that the care for and accountability of one’s people carries tremendous responsibility and weight. A member of the Academy’s Jolly Rogers Silent Drill Team, Eady can often be seen channeling his professionalism into the crisp movements on the parade deck.

His constant professional attitude, respect for others, and willingness to help out a shipmate have earned him the selection of first class of the Semester.

''He embodies all the desirable traits that a Chief wants in a new ensign or a second lieutenant,'' Becker said.

For his accomplishments, Eady will receive two lawn tickets to graduation and the book One Bullet Away, by Nathaniel Fick.

2⁄C Nanda Ramchandar, 27th Co.

As a chemistry major, Midn. 2⁄C Nanda Ramchandar earns grades well above those of the average Midshipman and hopes to service select Medical Corps.

When it comes to relating scholarly knowledge to a fellow Midshipman, no matter their rank, he is able to help them achieve success. He is clearly a catalyst in the mental development of other Midshipmen, and he is by no means selfish, always setting aside time to help others.

''Midshipman Ramchandar is one of the most humble and respectful Midshipman that I have had the pleasure of knowing while working at the Academy,'' said 27th Company Officer Lt. Bralyn Cathey.

As 27th Company’s Training Sergeant, Ramchandar holds weekly ''power hours'' to push his plebes to attaining peak physical fitness. He also develops his plebes morally through weekly ''fireside chats'' about key current event topics such as global warming, the presidential election, the state of the conflicts in the Middle East, and philosophical topics from readings in Shakespeare, Robert Frost, and military speeches.

Ramchandar also leads chemistry Midshipman Group Study Program sessions, currently serves as the Brigade Recycling Coordinator, volunteers at the Baltimore Shock Trauma Center, and actively participates in the Midshipman Action Group.

''Never one to toot his own horn, he has been an active member of 27th Company while maintaining a high scholastic average, and preparing himself for a career in medicine,'' said Cathey. ''A true superstar, I am blessed to have him in my company.''

Ramchandar goes well above and beyond in the fulfillment of his role as a second class and furthers the mission of the Naval Academy by developing Midshipmen morally, mentally, and physically.

For his accomplishments, Ramchandar will receive a color company parking spot for the fall, a $100 Yard Card, and the book Flags of Our Fathers, by James Bradley.

4⁄C Kyle Delahooke, 19th Co.

Midn. 4⁄C Kyle Delahooke has been an exemplary Midshipman throughout the semester. Despite having to balance his time between varsity football, academics, and his plebe duties, Delahooke has excelled in every area.

''It’s hard to explain what’s so great about him,'' said Aviation Electrician’s Mate (AW) Molly Agundez, 19th Company Senior Enlisted Leader. ''He’s squared away, polite, respectful, attentive, inquisitive, has great military bearing...he’s just one of those Mids.''

In football, Delahooke worked his way to the top of the depth chart at punter headed into the spring. In academics, he drastically improved his QPR at six weeks over his last semester QPR.

Most impressively, Delahooke, a political science major, has taken an active role as a peer leader and top performer amongst the plebe class. He has one of the highest pro-quiz averages at almost 97%, earned an A on the PRT, and is consistently seen pushing his classmates to do better. Delahooke is a native of Sierra Madre, Calif.

''He’s been ranked in the top five in his class in the Company since he’s been here,'' said Agundez. ''He is an all-around great Midshipman.''

For his outstanding success in every area of the mission, Delahooke has been selected as the 4⁄C of the Semester. Delahooke will receive $400 airfare voucher from MWF and the book Breaking the Color Barrier, by Robert J. Schneller, Jr.

2⁄C John Behrmann, 25th Co.
(Squad Leader)

Midn. 2⁄C John Behrmann, a native of Sebastian, Fla., has consistently gone above and beyond in his role as a squad leader this semester. After serving as a training sergeant last semester, he eagerly took on the job of being one of the first second class squad leaders in the Brigade.

''Behrmann is an excellent example of the professional Midshipman,'' said 25th Company Senior Enlisted Leader Chief Sonar Technician (SW⁄IUSS) Donna Robinson. ''Whether dealing with underclass, peers, or upperclass, Behrmann is the consummate professional, regularly using tact and candidness when dealing with others.''

Behrmann, an English major, helps people in his squad who struggle physically by going on early morning workouts several times a week. Two of his plebes failed the inventory PRT by more than two minutes, but after training with Behrmann, they both passed the spring PRT with flying colors.

''His unfailing devotion to personal accountability and integrity, discipline, and productivity are evident in the way he carries himself,'' said Robinson. ''Never asking of others what he cannot accomplish himself, he consistently sets a higher standard.''

Behrmann established a dynamic training environment within his squad and always goes that extra mile when it comes to leadership. His main focus with his squad has been instilling a family environment, and it clearly shows when you witness their interaction at tables. Behrmann perfectly balances the role of squad leader and trainer. The other second class in his squad respect him both as a friend and their leader.

''It is these qualities that enabled him to be selected for 25th Company XO during plebe summer, and next semester’s Company Commander,'' Robinson said.

Thanks to Behrmann’s superb and influential leadership, all of the plebes in his squad achieved pro-quiz averages of above 98%, with not a single failure. He is a vital asset to 25th Company and an example for future second class squad leaders throughout the Brigade.

For his accomplishments, Behrmann will receive a fully-funded squad outing from the Midshipman Welfare Fund and the book Footprints of Heroes, by Robert Skimin.

3⁄C Kelsey Cellon, 24th Co.

Well into the spring semester, Midn. 3⁄C Kelsey Cellon has continued to excel at the highest level and beyond. Her efforts are commendable as she continues to set herself apart from her peers on all levels.

Now with crew in its championship season, the boathouse demands more of Cellon’s time, though. She balances her varsity rowing career with a rigorous academic course load, and extensive and consistent participation and involvement with the development of the fourth class.

''She carries herself more like a senior, and volunteered to administer the pro-quiz to the plebes, where she did an outstanding job'' said Gunnery Sgt. Carl Myers, 24th Company Senior Enlisted Leader.

Cellon, of Virginia Beach, Va., is currently one of the training corporals and dedicates a great deal of time to mentoring not only the fourth class in her squad, but several plebes within the company. Also a member of the Midshipmen Catholic Club, Cellon is a respected mentor, and her plebes often turn to her for helpful advice.

''She is very humble and makes every effort to help other Midshipmen,'' said Myers. ''We are fortunate to have her.''

Her involvement goes beyond the workweek, as she attends SMT’s when not at practice and administered and graded pro-quizzes. Cellon also organizes weekly pick-up games in various sports for underclassmen against plebes, fostering company unity.

Cellon, a mechanical engineering major, goes past the typical youngster role and serves as an example for all Midshipmen to follow. For her accomplishments, Cellon will receive a refrigerator chit for the fall, a $100 Yard Card, and the book Band of Sisters, by Kirsten Holmstedt.
