Leatherneck 5K Race & Fun Run⁄Walk set for April 12

E-Mail This Article Print This Story
Pax River NAS is hosting the second annual Leatherneck 5K Race & Fun Run⁄Walk April 12.

The Leatherneck 5K was organized by a group of Marines acting as private citizens to raise funds for the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund (www.semperfifund.org); a Section 501 (c)(3) nonprofit charity.

The IMSFF has provided more $16 million in support to Marines, Sailors, and members of the other services who have been injured in combat operations or during training. This support includes grants to assist families with immediate financial needs and perpetuating needs such as modified transportation, home modifications, and specialized equipment.

In addition, the IMSFF established Team Semper Fi, a sports program that serves as an extension of the assistance provided to exceptional Marines, Sailors, and Soldiers injured in combat and training who refuse to allow their disabilities to hinder their athletic pursuits. Team Semper Fi provides coaches, specialized sporting equipment, entry fees, and travel expenses for the wounded team members.

This year's event will be held Saturday, April 12 at 9:30 a.m. The event will start and finish at the Cedar Point Officer's Club & Golf Course.

Race check-in will begin at 8 a.m. Participants may register online at: www.active.com⁄event_detail.cfm?event _id=1485847.

Online registration closes at 12 p.m. April 7. However there will be on-site registration next to the check-in table on race morning.

Entry fees are $18 until March 15 and $20 after that. On-site registration fee is $25.

Any and all donations to the Leatherneck 5K Injured Marine Fund are also greatly appreciated.

The goal this year is to top the $15,913 raised in last year’s inaugural event with 385 participants.
