On March 28, 1969, former President Dwight D. Eisenhower passed away in the Presidential Suite at WRAMC. He was 78 years old. Eisenhower had an intestinal obstruction and suffered several heart attacks while being treated at WRAMC. He finally succumbed to congestive heart failure and pneumonia. Gen. Eisenhower served as the Supreme Commander of U.S. Army forces in the D-Day invasion and was elected the 34th President of the United States from 1953-1961. The suite where he died is located on the third floor of the old hospital (Building 1). It was named in Eisenhowerís honor and is now used as a conference room. The name was carried over to the new hospital (Building 2) with the dedication of the Eisenhower Executive Suite, where current VIPs, including the President of the United States, receive health care in a secured, private environment.
