The Quantico Intramural Basketball League hosted the last game of the year March 17 at Barber Physical Activity Center here. The game consisted of all-stars from both the National and American leagues.

Before the All-Star game tipped off there was a three-point shootout to find the best three-point assassin within both divisions of the two leagues.

HMX’s Woodrow Boyd said, ‘‘I am the dunking man, I don’t shoot three’s.”

The very same team that swept the playoffs for the nearly perfect season also took over the three-point shooting contest. Brandon Hill from Officer Candidates School dominated each round all the way to the finals, where he won 12 to 9. Hill dropped a total of 31 three-pointers during the competition.

‘‘It feels good because by being here they thought I was a good shooter, and I proved them right by winning,” Hill said.

The game tipped off shortly after the three-point contest. Both teams warmed up together, having fun and laughing.

Some of the players, such as Boyd, William Swanson, and Nathan Sales, all play together on the All-Marine Basketball Team and are gearing up to head to the playoffs in a few weeks.

With all the different all-stars, they couldn’t just be coached by any old coach, so the league picked Freddie Wayne to coach the American team.

‘‘The only reason why I got this is because what we did in the regular league,” Wayne said. ‘‘I had to take a look at all the talent in the American league, and then I picked them by their athleticism, ability to shoot the three, and strength.”

He had a big advantage because he and a few others play for the base team and they have more time out on the court, Boyd said. He added they were just going to play and have fun.

The National team won in overtime 61-60 in the last minute to seal the deal and end the season on a good note.

‘‘I am going to try and talk to the director of the basketball league about getting a summer league put together, because we have a lot of athletes,” Wayne said.
