New Parent Support Group offers mom’s support group

New Parent Support Group is offering a mom’s support group Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the NPSP activity room. Life as a military spouse is challenging. Add small children and deployments into the equation and it can really get tough. Network with local area moms. Discuss parenting issues with other moms and New Parent Support staff. The CDC has hourly child care, call (703) 784-2716. Children must be pre-registered.

SMP takes trip to Kings Dominion

Single Marine Program is sponsoring a trip to Kings Dominion March 27 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Everyone will depart from Barber Physical Activity Center at 9. Cost is $20. For more information, call (571) 931-6427.

Potomac CFC is now accepting applications

Would you like to see your favorite charity listed as an agency in the CFC this year? The Potomac CFC is now accepting applications for local human service charities to be involved in the 2008-2009 CFC.

Applications are due on April 4. Approved charities will be eligible to receive designations from federal employees located in the counties of King George, Essex, King and Queen, Lancaster, Northumberland, Richmond, Westmoreland, Caroline, Stafford, Spotsylvania, Fauquier, Culpeper, Orange, Rappahannock, Madison, the City of Fredericksburg and the Marine Corps Base Quantico. Strayer University representative available

Barbara W. Birden, a representative from Strayer University, will be available at the base’s education center, Building 3088, every Thursday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. She will be able to assist potential students with their educational needs. Park University offers scholarship

Park University is offering a scholarship for spouses and dependents of active duty military assigned, attached or residing in the vicinity of Metropolitan District of Washington area.

The military family scholarship is for the period of July 1 to June 30, 2009. All applications must be completed by Monday.

L.I.N.K.S. class

Marine Corps Family Team Building’s Lifestyle, Insights, Networking, Knowledge and Skills program is sponsoring a two-day training session April 22-23 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the MCFTB house. The program enhances the readiness of Marines and their families through mentorship and informative workshops. Free onsite child care is provided. EFMP implements respite care program

The Exceptional Family Member Program has implemented a respite care program, which will allow 40 monthly hours of care for enrolled family members. Family members with a qualifying condition and are impacted by the Global War on Terror are eligible for the care. MCCS offers relocation class

Bowling center offers specials for spring break

During spring break, the Bowling Center will open at 1 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and March 27-28. On March 27, unlimited glo-bowling for two hours will be offered. Cost is $8, which includes shoe rental. For more information, contact Skip Merryman at (703) 784-2210.

Quantico Thrift Shop offers scholarships

The Quantico Thrift Shop will be awarding Scholarships to graduating seniors this spring. In order to qualify for consideration, a student must meet the following requirements:

  • Be a graduating senior of active duty U S Marine stationed at one of the commands aboard Quantico, or dependent of retired or deceased U S Marine living within 25 mile radius of Quantico, or dependent of a Thrift Shop volunteer with a minimum of 100-hours of current shop service.

  • Graduating senior must be entering a college or university, school of nursing, trade or other school above high school level during the school year following graduation from high school.

    Applications for the Quantico Thrift Shop Scholarship can be picked up at the shop, which is located at Building 3074.
