Celebrate National Nutrition Month with healthy meals

The American Dietetic Association promotes National Nutrition Month every March. The theme this year is ‘‘It’s a Matter of Fact.” The fundamental message is for consumers to look beyond the myths of nutrition and focus more on the facts.

Eating right does not have to be challenging. In order to lose weight, exercise, behavior modification and lifestyle changes are required. Majority of the food you eat should be complex carbohydrates, fresh fruits and vegetables, lean protein and low fat dairy.

There area no ‘‘good or bad foods.” All foods fit in a healthy meal plan. Also, there is no single food or meal that will make or break a healthy diet. However, portion, moderation and variety is essential.

Understand that the change must come from within you! Like anything, nothing great is ever achieved without much enduring!
