Sara Coolbaugh (left, in white) directs CDC preschoolers through the commissary Tuesday morning. March is the CDC’s ‘‘Health and Nutrition” month.
Students from the Fort Myer Child Development Center visited the commissary Wednesday morning to learn about proper nutrition. March is designated as ‘‘Health and Nutrition” month by the CDC.

Grocery Manager Jeanette Riddick said that 185 students and 30 teachers and CDC staff toured the commissary. Along the way, they were taught about eating well-rounded meals and healthy snacks.

Sara Coolbaugh acted as a sort of liaison between the CDC and commissary for the event. As a ‘‘CDC parent,” as she put it, and an Associate CAO at the commissary, she was able to help both organizations.

‘‘I’m in [the CDC] every day anyway, so it made sense that I help them out with this event,” she said.

At the end of their tour, the students and staff received bags full of healthful goodies including nutrition bars, cereal, low-calorie cookies, pretzels and water bottles. Boxes and carts were loaded with extra bags to be given to students who wouldn’t attend Wednesday’s field trip.

‘‘They were all really happy,” said Coolbaugh.
