The new Fort McNair Fitness Center will have its grand opening April 4 at 1 p.m. in Bldg. 69. According to Vance Penn, director of community recreation for the Fort Myer Military Community’s Morale, Welfare and Recreation directorate, the event will feature speeches and pomp and circumstance and staffers who will demonstrate how to use the new exercise equipment.
Penn said the new gym is four times larger than the facility it replaces in Bldg. 49. ‘‘As one opens the other will close,” he explained. He said the old gym remained open while the new one was readied so Soldiers and civilians could maintain physical training.
Penn said new ‘‘highly certified and credentialed staff” would be on hand at the grand opening to introduce themselves to gym users.
‘‘It’s a totally new structure with brand new state-of-the-art equipment,” Penn enthused. ‘‘ It’s absolutely beautiful inside.”
Prior to the elaborate grand opening, physical fitness buffs will have an opportunity to tour the new facility in a soft opening that begins Wednesday. For more information, call the Fort Myer Fitness Center at ((202) 685-3117.
