Air Force officials to close force shaping programs
Since the Air Force is on track to meet end strength goals for fiscal 2008, force shaping programs are being closed for the remainder of the year.
March 31 is the last day Air Force officials will accept fiscal 2008 Voluntary Separation Pay program applications. All eligible officers interested in applying must submit applications for VSP online through Virtual MPF on or before March 31.
All other officer voluntary separation force shaping programs also close March 31, to include Limited Active Duty Service Commitment Waivers and Palace Chase transfers to Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve.
Voluntary retirement programs – prior-service officers eligible to retire with eight years commissioned service and lieutenant colonels and colonels requesting time-in-grade waivers with their retirement applications – close April 30.
However, the Blue to Green program for enlisted and officers applying for transfer to the Army will remain open indefinitely.
A decision on what force shaping programs may be utilized in fiscal 2009 is still pending.

PXs and BXs offer anglers the catch of a lifetime
The catch of the day at BXs and PXs in CONUS (including Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico) from March 14 – 27 will be the chance to win one of three guided fishing trips to some of the hottest fishing destinations in the world.
Maurice Sporting Goods, Pure Fishing, Plano Molding Company, Zebco, Flambeau Outdoors, Shimano, Normark and Penn Fishing Tackle Manufacturing Company are partnering with the Army & Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) to send three authorized exchange shoppers to one of the following fishing fantasy lands:
Grand Prize: Guided King Salmon fishing trip for two on the Kenai River in Alaska (approx. value $6,000)
Second Prize: Guided fishing trip for two to the Florida Keys (approx. value $3,000)
Third Prize: Guided fishing trip for one to the Texas Gulf coast (approx. value $1,500)
‘‘Anglers know that the exchange is the place to go and fish for a good deal, but we’re hoping to reel them in with more than just the everyday value found at the BX or PX,” said AAFES’ Chief Marketing Officer Richard Sheff. ‘‘This year, multiple chances to win the trip of a lifetime reaffirms AAFES’, and the fishing industry’s biggest names’, desire to provide military families with a safe and convenient one-stop shop for all of their fishing needs.”
Entry forms for this contest are available exchanges in CONUS (including Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico) through March 27. No purchase is necessary to enter and entrants need not be present to win.
