Staff Sgt. Derek Hojohn, 11th Wing, is presented with the Airman of the Year plaque from Col. Kurt F. Neubauer, 11th Wing commander, and Chief Master Sergeant Randall A. Raper, 11th Wing command chief master sergeant. Sergeant Hojohn was honored during a ceremony at the Bolling Clubs March 13.
The top Airmen for the “Chiefs Own“ were announced March 13 at the Bolling Clubs during the 11th Wing 2007 Annual Awards banquet.
“This is a wonderful way for us to celebrate the achievements of Airmen in 'The Chief's Own,'“ said Col. Kurt F. Neubauer, 11th Wing commander. “Whether enlisted, officer or civilian, it's a fitting tribute to their devotion, enthusiasm and crucial role in accomplishing the 11th Wing's mission.“
Military and civilian nominees are selected on the basis of leadership and job performance in primary duties, significant self-improvement, and base and community involvement. The volunteer awards are based on total number of hours volunteered, specific accomplishments and impact of service, effect of innovative solutions and other considerations.

Airman of the Year
Staff Sgt. Derek Hojohn
11th Wing Financial Management
Some of the key accomplishments that led to Sergeant Hojohn winning this award include processing 1,800 military pay documents with 99 percent accuracy, training 343 leave administrators, completing 21 credit hours toward a bachelor's degree in computer engineering and volunteering 12 hours of off-duty time to Reserve Mass Fitness Training.
NCO of the Year
Tech. Sgt. Michael Naquin
11th Security Forces Squadron
Some of the key accomplishments that led to Sergeant Naquin winning this award include being selected as the 2007 Lance P. Sijan Award winner, choreographing an eight-member detail during a capital murder trail, scoring 92 percent on the annual physical fitness test and coaching a local tee-ball team.
Senior NCO of the Year
Master Sgt. Robert Greenberg
U.S. Air Force Honor Guard
Some of the key accomplishments that led to Sergeant Greenberg winning this award include leading a flight during the 60th Air Force Anniversary Tattoo, completing two books on the chief master sergeant of the Air Force's reading list, spearheading the 12th Annual Airman Holiday Social and volunteering 44 hours of off-duty time.
First Sergeant of the Year
Master Sgt. Torrance Martin, 11th SFS
Some of the key accomplishments that led to Sergeant Martin winning this award include creating a tracking program to improve timeliness of enlisted performance reports, indoctrinating 63 augmentees into the 11th SFS team, earning his second Community College of the Air Force degree and dedicating time to the Bolling Top 3.
Company Grade Officer of the Year
Capt. Julia Jefferson, 11th SFS
Some of the key accomplishments which led to Captain Jefferson winning this award include filling in during the 11th SFS commander's absence, directing security operations during the Global Air Chief Ceremony, arranging a Combat Lifesaver Course for deploying Airmen and attending Security Force Advanced Office Course.
Civilian of the Year, Category I
Tearline Davis, 11th Mission Support Squadron
Some of the key accomplishments that led to Davis winning this award include processing 600 passports, conducting outbound assignment training session for personnel, preparing 46 tax returns for members of her unit and volunteering to work at 2007 Joint Services Open House.
Civilian of the Year, Category II
Toni Chism, 11th Wing Judge Advocate
Some of the key accomplishments that led to Chism winning this award include augmenting the legal assistance staff, processing four administrative discharge cases, completing five optional Judge Advocate Distance Education modules and serving 300 Thanksgiving meals to the homeless.
Civilian of the Year, Category III
George Jones, 11th SFS
Some of the key accomplishments that led to Jones winning this award include certifying 102 security force personnel, procuring a $40,000 gate-entry license plate recognition system, training eight members in cardiac pulmonary resuscitation and volunteering 62 hours with the Charles County, Md., Sheriff's youth outreach program.
Military Volunteer of the Year

Some of the key accomplishments that led to Airman Fellores winning this award include volunteering 43 hours to eight different organizations.
Civilian Volunteer of the Year
Cara Johnson, 11th WG⁄JA
Some of the key accomplishments that led to Johnson winning this award include volunteering 614 hours to the 11th Wing.
