Commander’s Corner

Greetings to the Fort Detrick community!

I think it’s safe to say Spring is almost here. As the weather thankfully gets warmer, we have some great activities planned for you and your families. Saturday, March 15, is our annual Easter Egg Extravaganza at GMH Community Center from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on post.

Bring out all the little ones for hunting and prizes. It’s usually a popular event, so I recommend getting there on time.

I encourage everyone who goes to church to check out the great Post Chapel we have. The chapel is holding a special Easter Holiday schedule to accommodate different Christian religions. You can find more details on Page 16.

Many of our other organizations on post go out of their way to try to provide the best to our community. We recently held our yearly, four-day Army Family Action Plan Conference and dealt with many issues that were important to our quality of life.

I am fully committed to making sure the fundamental concerns and comments from our families and servicemmebers are addressed.

I also would like to remind everyone that they don’t have to wait for the yearly event to bring up issues.

We look closely at our customer service and the best way to be heard throughout the year is to fill out an ICE Comment Card – they’re available 24⁄7 on the Fort Detrick homepage. For more about AFAP, check out Page 7.

Another great thing we’re looking forward to is the new Commissary opening at 10 a.m. April 8. Mark your calendar for this one! They’re going to have great giveaways, special deals, a lot more.

The store is going to be nearly twice the size it is now and have a lot more products to offer. It’s also going to be open for Sunday shopping. I encourage everyone to take advantage of the new store and its more user-friendly hours.

I want everyone to know it is truly a pleasure to serve this great ‘Community of Excellence.’ Keep up the great work!

Army Strong!
