Translating science into news

Susan Milius, reporter for Science News magazine, and Robert Frederick, writer for Science magazine, will give a lecture, titled “Science and the Media: How Science Turns into News,“ on March 19 at St. Mary's College of Maryland. John LaChance ‘‘Heroes” Golf Tournament

Foursomes are needed for the John LaChance ‘‘Heroes” Golf Tournament, to be held Saturday, March 29 at Cameron Hills Golf Course. Shotgun start will be at 9 a.m. The tournament will be followed by an awards dinner and silent auction. All proceeds benefit the Coalition to Salute America’s Heroes, a non-profit organization helping our severely wounded and disabled Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom veterans and their families rebuild their lives, http:⁄⁄www.saluteheroes.org. Women’s Forum Planned for March

The 25th Annual Barbara Hicks Geslock Women's Forum will be held on March 29 at James Monroe High School in Fredericksburg. The conference will host a day of workshops, networking and exhibits. Cost to participate is $15. Exhibits will be open from 8:30 a.m. - 3 p.m. There will be free blood pressure checks by Germanna nursing students and the Mary Washington Hospital Health Van will be on site (cholesterol and glucose check-up, fasting required for glucose only). Potomac CFC Now Accepting Applications

Would you like to see your favorite charity listed as an agency in the CFC this year? The Potomac Combined Federal Campaign is now accepting applications for local human service charities to be involved in the 2008-2009 CFC. Applications are due on April 4. Approved charities will be eligible to receive designations from federal employees located in the counties of King George, Essex, King & Queen, Lancaster, Northumberland, Richmond, Westmoreland, Caroline, Stafford, Spotsylvania, Fauquier, Culpeper, Orange, Rappahannock, Madison, the City of Fredericksburg and the Marine Corps Base Quantico.
