From Naval Academy Public Affairs

Commandant of Midshipmen Capt. Matthew Klunder recently received the following letter in appreciation for the Midshipmen Action Group’s participation in Anne Arundel County’s homeless awareness project.

‘‘Captain Klunder,

I want to extend my appreciation to Midshipman Chris Bialko, Chief of Staff for the Midshipmen Action Group, for his support on our homeless awareness project in Anne Arundel County.

Midshipman Bialko spearheaded the action group to bring 345 midshipmen to the Annapolis mall movie theater on Saturday morning to view The Blind Side. The showing of this movie was timely in that this has been a very difficult winter in the mid-atlantic region for the homeless and the movie portrayed the situation and what can be accomplished by caring people. The movie had over 600 participants who brought donations which will be used March 27 for Homeless Resource Day.

Many of the homeless providers have been stretched to the limit with shelter demands during these recent snowstorms and severe temperatures.

Upon my contact with Ms. Stanicic, Midshipman Bialko took on the project with enthusiasm. He coordinated all details of the project to assure that midshipmen were aware of the need and had the ability to participate. The outcome was outstanding. Our county executive, agency director and county providers were all impressed with the academy's participation.

Thank you for promoting midshipmen of such caliber.”
