The 2010 Bolling Base Guide is available at Bldg. 4, First Floor, Multimedia Center. Please come by and pick up your guide, which includes a base phone directory.

Bolling celebratesAfrican-American History Month

Bolling Air Force Base is celebrating African-American History Month with several events during the month of February.

Events will include an ‘‘Economic Empowerment” luncheon at 11:30 a.m. today in the Bolling Club Capitol Ballroom. Maj. Gen. Errol R. Schwartz, D.C. National Guard commander, will be the guest speaker at the luncheon.

‘‘The empowerment component of our luncheon is designed to provide every Airman in attendance with the necessary perspective and motivation to achieve his or her desired degree of economic empowerment,” said 2nd Lt. Kellen J. Curry, event coordinator.

Ticket prices for the luncheon are $16 for club members and $18 for non-club members. Military members will wear the uniform of the day; civilian employees will wear business casual attire.

Top III meets second Thursday

The base Top III meets the second Thursday of each month from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the 11th Wing conference room in Building P-20. For more information, call Master Sgt. Carrie McLaughlin at 202-404-1065.

Chiefs’ Talkers and Flying Geese meets Wednesdays

The Flying Geese Toastmasters Club meets Wednesdays at Bolling’s Main Chapel, room 19, from 12:15 to 1 p.m. The Bolling Chiefs’ Talkers Toastmasters Club meets Wednesdays at the Bolling Club’s Old Club Room, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. For more information on Chief’s Talkers, call 301-203-0448. H1N1 vaccine available,mandatory

The 579th Medical Group at Bolling AFB has H1N1 vaccines available for all beneficiaries. The vaccine is mandatory for all military personnel. Anyone who wishes to be immunized against H1N1 influenza can be vaccinated; however, those in the following at-risk categories are being encouraged to be immunized as soon as possible:

1. Pregnant women

2. Caregivers of infants less than six months old 3. Children six months old to young adults through 24 years old 4. Adults 25 to 65 years old with chronic medical conditions (such as diabetes, heart⁄lung⁄kidney disease, HIV infection, lupus) 5. Healthcare workers and emergency services personnel

Enjoy USAF Band’s ChamberPlayers Series in February

The United States Air Force Band’s Chamber Players Series draws vocalists and instrumentalists from every performing ensemble of the organization.

In February, there will be several opportunities to see one of these chamber ensembles.

Tonight, the program will feature music for flute, clarinet, and cello—performed by Master Sgts. Stacy Ascione and Julianna Arnold, as well as Technical Sgt. Joshua Kowalsky. The concert will be held at the George Washington Masonic Memorial, located at 101 Callahan Drive, Alexandria, Va., and begins at 8 p.m.

Chamber Players Series concerts are presented from September through May in metropolitan Washington, D.C., venues, including the White House Visitor Center, the Millennium Stage at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Harmony Hall Regional Center, Montgomery College and the George Washington Masonic National Memorial.

AFOWC scholarships available

The Air Force Officers’ Wives’ Club is offering scholarships to high school seniors, continuing education students and Air Force members’ dependent spouses, including retirees, residing in the Washington, D.C. area. Applicants are judged on academic and service or citizenship achievement. Financial need is not taken into consideration. Bolling Thrift Shop seeksnew volunteers

The Air Force Officers’ Wives Club on Bolling Air Force Base is looking for new volunteers to work at the thrift shop located in Building 13 on Brookley Avenue. The thrift shop is open 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. It is closed for the month of August, the last two weeks of December and federal holidays. Clinic changes hours

Because of the time change for the 579th Medical Group’s readiness training, the allergy and immunization clinic operating hours on the first Wednesday of every month will be 7:30 a.m.- noon. The smallpox vaccine will now be administered Wednesdays at 7:30 a.m. only. For more information, call Staff Sgt. Shane Harper at 202-404-3572.
