Valentines dinner, dance

American Legion Post 274 in Lusby will host a Valentines dinner and dance Saturday, Feb. 14. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. Chicken or steak dinner will be served at 7 p.m. with a dance featuring a variety of music beginning at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 per person. Contra Dance

The Southern Maryland Traditional Music and Dance monthly Contra Dance will be Feb. 14, 7 - 10 p.m. at the St. Andrew’s Church Parish Hall. Beginners instruction is at 7 p.m. with the dance to start at 7:30 p.m. An ice cream social will follow at 10 p.m. Admission is $8, $6 for SMTMD members. Call 301-769-4762 for more information.

Benefit concert

Treat your sweetheart to an evening of rousing sea chanteys and traditional ballads Saturday, Feb. 14 at the Dove Benefit Concert in the reconstructed State House at historic St. Mary’s City from 7 - 9:30 p.m. Calico Jack is the featured performer. Indoor yard sale

Mt. Zion United Methodist Church Preschool in Laurel Grove will sponsor an indoor yard sale Saturday, Feb. 14 from 7 a.m. - 1 p.m. in the church Family Life Center. Those interested in selling may rent a table for $15 or two tables for $25. For more information call 301-884-4132.

K of C dance and lessons

Beginner-level moves in the foxtrot and swing will be taught Saturday Feb. 14 from 7 - 8 p.m. at Little Flower School in Great Mills. A dance featuring music of all kinds will immediately follow and will end at 11 p.m. Cost for the event is $8 per person, $15 per couple and $5 for seniors and students. Patrons are asked to bring snacks to share. Water and sodas will be provided. The dance is sponsored by the Knights of Columbus of Holy Face Church. Blood drive

Newcomers and Neighbors

The Newcomers and Neighbors Club of Southern Maryland will hold its monthly meeting Wednesday, Feb. 18 at 10:30 a.m. The meeting will be held at DiGiovanni’s restaurant in Solomons. Tech Expo

The Dr. James A. Forrest Career & Technology Center will host its tenth annual Forrest Center Tech Expo, Thursday, Feb. 19, 5:30 – 8 p.m., at the school site located in Leonardtown (directly across from the St. Mary’s County Fairgrounds).

The purpose of the expo is to familiarize students and parents with career and technology education career options offered by St. Mary’s County Public Schools. This is an opportunity to meet the staff at the center and to learn about the 23 programs currently offered. Middle school and high school counselors will be available to answer questions about career clusters and to assist students in planning their academic program. The evening will include special presentations for parents that explain the registration process and the procedures to follow to incorporate Forrest Center programs into their child’s schedule.

Volunteer program for teens

Jefferson Patterson Park & Museum (JPPM) is offering teenagers between the ages of 13 – 17 the chance to have ‘‘hands-on” experience in maintaining its newly built replica of an Eastern Woodland Indian village. Volunteers will grow plants in the village garden, participate in research experiments on native lifeways, and learn to demonstrate crafts and skills to help introduce the public to archery, music, and other crafts and skills at the American Indian Lifeways Festival held in October at the Indian Village.

An introductory meeting is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 21 at 9:30 a.m., at JPPM in the Breckinridge Education Center. Spouses Club comedy night

The Pax River Officers’ Spouses Club will host its fifth annual Comedy Show Saturday, Feb. 28 at 7 p.m. in the St. John’s School gym in Hollywood.
