C. J. Rorie Award
The C. J. Rorie Award was established to recognize military personnel assigned to NSWCDD whose excellence in the performance of their duties has contributed significantly to the effectiveness of the Division’s military operations.

The award was named in honor of Rear Admiral C. J. Rorie, USN (Retired), Commander of the Naval Surface Warfare Center from March 1975 to September 1977. He was instrumental in leading the Center during its early years, following the initial merger of the Naval Weapons Laboratory and the Naval Ordnance Laboratory. Rear Admiral Rorie helped build an institution of lasting value to the Navy. The award consists of a plaque.

Bernard Smith Award
The Bernard Smith Award was established to recognize those individuals with exceptional, significant technical contributions in engineering or science, particularly contributions that are accomplished by exceptional persistence and competence in the face of unusual odds or significant opposition.

The award was named in honor of Bernard Smith, Technical Director of the Naval Weapons Laboratory from August 1964 to 1973. The award consists of a bronze medal and a certificate.

Dr. James E. Colvard Award
The Dr. James E. Colvard Award was established to recognize individuals who, through their leadership, have made substantial contributions to the development of the Dahlgren Laboratory as a technical institution.The Dr. James E. Colvard Award was named in honor of Dr. James E. Colvard, who was Technical Director of the Naval Weapons Laboratory from 1973 to 1974 and the Naval Surface Weapons Center from 1974 to 1980.
