2008 youth sports schedule

The 2008 youth sports season starts January and the cost for all leagues is $40 for the first child and $35 for each additional child. The first child of a head coach will play free.

If registrations are taken after the advertised dates, then there is a $10 late registration fee per household. Proof of age must be presented at the time of registration with birth certificate and⁄or child’s ID card. All registration must be done in person. No waivers will be made. Active duty, retired military, MCCS employees, DOD working aboard Quantico, foreign military may register. Players will receive a uniform shirt and an award at the end of the season. For the soccer season, players will receive a pair of socks, and in baseball, they will receive a cap.

Practices are twice a week, games are played on Saturdays. At times, there may be some weeknight games.

    Semi-pro football team seeks players

    The Fredericksburg Falcon Semi-pro Football Team is currently recruiting for the following positions: offensive linemen – all positions; defensive linemen – all positions; quarterback; tight end; and free safety. Note that all positions are open but these are the positions with a lack of depth.

    The Falcons are searching for coachable, team oriented players with positive attitudes; dedicated players willing to attend team functions and exhibit the desire to win.

    A minimum of high school playing experience is preferred. However, if you feel you have the talent to play on this level and can display a positive image while being a member of this organization, give us a call. Winter workouts will start in January 2008 at the Sport & Health (4-Mile Fork location).The first team meeting is Sunday at 4 p.m. for future players and coaches at Brock’s Riverside Grill in Fredericksburg. Team dues and your own equipment are required.

    Intramural racquetball organizational meeting

    The 2008 intramural racquetball organizational meeting is scheduled for Feb. 4 at 2 p.m. in Barber Physical Activity Center’s health promotions classroom. All coaches and⁄or unit representatives are required to attend.

    Quantico soccer team seeks players

    The Quantico soccer team is scheduled to hold tryouts for the spring season Feb. 12-14 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Barnett Field. The soccer team is part of the Commonwealth Soccer League and games are played in the Fredericksburg area. The season starts in March and all service members stationed aboard Quantico are eligible to join the team.

    Weight⁄Rep competition 2008 schedule

    The Weight⁄Rep 2008 competition started Friday from 6:30 to 7:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on the fitness deck of Barber Physical Activity Center.

    Participants will be required to weigh-in before the competition begins. The competition is open to active duty and retired military, DOD civilians and their family members.

    Max Contest: Squat, dead-lift and bench press score based on percentage of body weight lifted.

    Max Rep Contest: Pull-ups, push-ups and crunches. Highest number of reps successfully completed in two minutes.

    Semper Fit athletics offers racquetball classes

    The Semper Fit Athletics Department is offering racquetball lessons. Interested individuals can sign up at the front desk at Barber Physical Activity Center.

    Single Marine, Sailor Program cruise

    The Single Marine and Sailor Program is sponsoring a Western Caribbean cruise Sept. 14-21. The cruise is open to Single Marines and Sailors. There’s nothing as carefree and fun-filled as a cruise vacation. Departing from Tampa, Florida. Ports of call include Grand Cayman, Cozumel, Belize and Costa Maya. There are 15 double, inside cabins reserved. Cost: Doubles + $526.96 per person, includes taxes and gratuities. The cost includes transportation to⁄from Tampa, shipboard accommodations, ocean transportation, most meals, some beverages and most onboard entertainment. A valid passport is required. Anyone under 21 must share a cabin with someone 25 years or older. A payment schedule has been set up monthly. There is space for 30 Marines and sailors.     Quantico Youth Center offers open recreation

    Quantico’s youth center is sponsoring open recreation for children 5 to 12 years old. There is a $35 one year membership fee for youths who do not have a registration card.

    There will be gym activities, arts and crafts, games and field trips. Open to all active duty, retired military and DOD civilian youth. For more information, call (703) 784-2249.

    Prince William County Lassie softball league

    The Prince William County Lassie softball league is seeking players for the Girls Slow Pitch Softball league. Girls ages 9-19 are eligible for this league. Registration is ongoing until March 1.
