Auto Skills Center

The Auto Skills Center on Bolling is the perfect place to learn everything you ever wanted to know about your car while saving on high maintenance costs. The shop has 10 maintenance stalls, two body stalls, a paint-spray booth, an engine analyzer, resale store, engine work room, high-speed wheel balancer, tool-issue area and four coin-operated car-wash stalls with foaming brushes, four lube racks and three frame lifts. Those who prefer may have auto repairs done by skilled mechanics on site.

The auto center also provides additional services including window tinting, auto detailing and alarm⁄stereo installation. The center is also home to the scrub shop, a professional and personalized automobile detailing service.

Fitness & Aerobic Centers

Bolling houses two fitness facilities: the aerobic center and the fitness center. The fitness center offers a variety of intramural and varsity sports, top-of-the-line fitness equipment and innovative fitness programs. The fitness center offers several sporting venues, such as four regulation racquetball courts, one regulation-size basketball⁄volleyball court and two regulation-size softball fields. Strength training equipment in the fitness center consists of 45 free weight machines, and 17 Nautilus strength-training machines. The facility also houses several different types of cardiovascular equipment including two step mills, one stair stepper, six treadmills, six elliptical machines, and four stationary bikes. The fitness center has locker rooms for men and women, both of which are equipped with a steam room and a sauna.

The aerobic center houses 36 pieces of high-tech cardiovascular equipment including five treadmills, 11 elliptical machines, 13 stationary bikes, one stair mill, three stair steppers, two Nordic tracks, and two rowing machines. The aerobics center also offers a variety of aerobic and self-defense classes taught by nationally certified instructors in a dedicated aerobic room. Men’s and women’s locker rooms allow patrons to shower after exercising.

New for 2005 is the fitness advisor. This is a computer-based program that tracks and records patron workouts on both cardiovascular equipment and strength-training equipment. When the fitness advisor is used in conjunction with the Nautilus strength-training machines, it acts as a virtual personal trainer that makes sure the patron has the correct bio-mechanical body positioning and is performing the exercise at the correct speed. The fitness advisor also tracks and records cardiovascular exercise performed on the treadmills, step mills, stair steppers, stationary bikes and elliptical machines.

Outdoor Recreation Center

For those folks who hear the call of the wild, the specialists at outdoor recreation can point you in the right direction. The center sponsors seasonal programs such as horseback riding, hiking, fishing, camping, skiing and rock climbing. It also houses a leisure travel service, which offers a wide variety of trips throughout the greater Washington area, and to New York City, Atlantic City, ski resorts, shopping outlets, beaches and more.

Outdoor Recreation also handles all reservations for picnics and shelters at Giesboro Park and Bolling Green areas on base.

Outdoor Recreation operates the base swimming pool. The pool is open Memorial Day through Labor Day. Swim teams, pool rental as well as group and private swim lessons are just some of the services available.

Skills Development Center

The skills development center offers a chance to work in a frame shop or woodshop. Services include custom framing, gifts, plaques and much more, all at reasonable prices. In addition, the center holds monthly “how-to“ classes in woodworking and framing, so patrons can do it themselves at considerable savings.

The facility houses an engraving shop that provides a wide variety of professional laser and metal engraving. The wood shop offers some of the best-equipped facilities in the area with a professional woodcrafter on hand to assist with any project. It also offers a full line of power and hand tools and the most popular hardwoods for sale.

Youth Activities

Children can take advantage of the many programs at Bolling's youth center. The center offers a summer day-camp program, self-directed activities such as table games, instructional classes such as ballet, Tae Kwon Do, gymnastics, and both before- and after-school day care. The teen center offers a safe and enjoyable place for teens to hang out.

The center has a pool table, ping-pong table, video game system, color TV, VCR, and a state-of-the-art stereo system.

Regular activities include roller- and ice-skating, outdoor adventure trips, movie nights and the Keystone Club. Teens can also earn money for college by participating in the youth “YES“ employment program.
