The mission of “The Chief's Own“ is operations support, but the diversity of the 11th Wing's functions is what makes it unique. A world-class organization with world-class people focusing on wartime readiness and wartime customer support.
“The Chief's Own“ provides world-class:
1. Base operating and logistical support
2. Ceremonial, musical, protocol and funeral support
3. Selected administrative MAJCOM support for HQ USAF and Air Force element activities worldwide
4. Primary care and travel medical services
The Air Force District of Washington is headquartered at Bolling Air Force Base, home of the 11th Wing, which is known as “The Chief's Own.“
The 11th Wing is the single manager for all Air Force activities supporting Headquarters Air Force and other Air Force units in the National Capital Region as well as 152 countries throughout the world.
The wing has a worldwide responsibility to provide major command-level manpower, personnel, programming, budgeting support and Uniform Code of Military Justice jurisdiction for Air Force elements throughout the world plus the air staff, office of the secretary of defense and Joint Chiefs of Staff. The 11th Wing provides base-level support and services to Air Force personnel and their families assigned to the National Capital Region.
The 11th Wing also plans and directs the activities and performances of the U.S. Air Force Band and U.S. Air Force Honor Guard, and provides support to the Air Force chief of staff, secretary of the Air Force, the White House and other joint ceremonies and activities.
The 11th Wing combines its resources from the Pentagon, Bolling and the National Capital Region to execute its mission.
