The Capital Children’s Museum closed permanently on August 22, 2004, so it could begin full-time development of the National Children’s Museum. The new museum will open in 2009.

Historic Glen Echo Park offers a variety of low cost activities suitable for all ages and interests. This former Chautauqua site, turned amusement park offers the opportunity to experience diversity in a unique environment, focusing on the visual and performing arts, humanities, education, environmental science and recreation. Installed in 1921, the Dentzel carousel operates May - October (will open for 2006 season on April 29). Rides cost $1. Glen Echo Park hosts a variety of arts and nature programs for children of all ages. Programs include theater training with Adventure Theatre, puppet-making workshops, fine arts and visual arts programs, photography training, nature camps with Discovery Creek Children’s Museum, dance movement classes and much more.
