Auto Skills Center

The Auto Hobby Shop, located in Bldg. 1420, is a fully equipped, self-service repair facility, which offers three lifts and three bays, Snap-on-Tools Diagnostics Center, drum brake tools, tap and die sets, timing lights, strut compressor, and most other tools and equipment needed. Standard maintenance items are onsite for purchase, and professional guidance is available to assist you. Check your vehicle with the “Mitchell Information System“, which contains information on recalls, service bulletins and make⁄model updates. All tools and equipment are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Bowling Center

The Indian Head Division Bowling Center is located in Bldg.D328, downstairs from the Gym, and hosts winter and summer leagues, open bowling, youth leagues, and special events. A snack bar with refreshments is available. Reservations can be made for birthday parties and other private functions. The birthday party package includes unlimited bowling and free shoe rentals for one hourly fee. Call the ITT Office to find out about availability.

The Child Development Center is located in Bldg. 1901. If you are active duty military, military retiree, reservists on active duty, DOD civilian employee or DOD civilian contractor, you are eligible to use the Child Development Center (CDC) programs. Priority is given to active duty military. Fees are based on total family income. The CDC provides quality childcare for children six weeks to five years of age. Caregivers in your child's classroom are trained to develop age-appropriate activities for your child. Our CDC models the Navy's commitment to providing only the highest quality care for your child.

The Child Development Home program increases the availability of qualified childcare services for families at Indian Head. The program provides certified caregivers for children between six weeks and 12 years of age in the local community. The Child Development Home Program offers great employment opportunities for military spouses; providers work out of their homes, care for children and have the flexibility to set their own hours and fees.

The My Generation Youth Center, located in Bldg. 441, provides before- and after-school care, open rec, and summer camp programs and special events to children ages five (and in kindergarten) - 12 years. The program is a member of the Boys & Girls Club of America and provides nutritional snacks, arts & crafts, computer access, stimulating learning experiences and recreational activities to make up many fun-filled days.

Fire & Emergency Service Division

The mission of the Fire and Emergency Service Division is to save lives, protect property and protect the environment from hazardous situations, both manmade and natural. The department is on duty twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, with thirty-two lead firefighters, firefighter⁄EMT's and firefighter⁄paramedics to provide assistance to the base residents and employees when called upon. In addition to the firefighters and paramedics, there is one District Fire Chief, three Battalion Chiefs and three Fire Inspectors in the department for a total of 39 personnel.

The department's activities include fire protection, fire suppression, fire prevention, public safety education, hazardous material handling and emergency medical responses. The firefighters maintain a high level of training and qualification to respond and provide the services needed in each situation. The department personnel are also trained and certified as operators of emergency vehicles that include structural pumpers, a 75' ladder truck equipped with a pump, brush trucks, a Hazardous Materials Response Vehicle and an ambulance. The Emergency medical personnel are certified as paramedics and provide Advanced Life Support when needed as well as provide CPR and other vital training to all base employees and residents.

The Prevention Division is responsible for conducting Fire and Life Safety inspections, reviewing new construction and renovation plans, attending pre-construction meetings with contractors, investigation of fires and issuing open flame permits. This division also manages the Fire Prevention and Safety Program for the base. This vital program includes inspections of the childcare facilities, which includes in-home childcare inspections as well. The inspectors also conduct emergency evacuation drills for base employees and provide educational and hands-on activities for the base employees and residents. The Prevention Division has just received a new portable Fire Extinguisher Trainer, which allows us to conduct the required fire extinguisher training for all personnel at your site.

Currently the phone system for the base is currently not 911 compliant. If you dial 911 in the event of an emergency, the call will be taken at the Charles County Emergency Dispatch Center in LaPlata, Md. Dialing 911 could possibly add a delay to the response of the emergency vehicles and cause further harm. In the event of a medical, fire or other emergency requiring the services of the Emergency Services Division, please dial 301-744-4333.

Deployment Readiness
Command Consultation and Support, Information & Referral, Deployment and Individual Augmentee (IA) Support, Ombudsman Training, Exceptional Family Member Information, and Life Skills Education and Prevention programs.

Crisis Response
FFSC licensed clinical counselors provide counseling, victim intervention and prevention education. Services include solution-focused clinical counseling; Family Advocacy Programs (FAP) addressing domestic violence, child maltreatment prevention, and Domestic Victim Advocacy; and Sexual Assault Victim Intervention (SAVI) prevention and education.

Career Support and Retention
Programs include the Transition Assistance Program (TAP) for active duty, the Family Employment Readiness program to assist family members with their job search; Personal Financial Management education programs, and the Relocation Assistance Program.

The FFSC main office at Dahlgren, VA has a Retired Activities Office staffed by retired military volunteers who assist retired military personnel, their families and survivors with information on retiree issues, Veteran's Benefits and Survivor Benefits.

The ITR Office rents an extensive selection of recreation equipment. Available items include tents, canoes, tarps, picnic tents, tables, chairs, campers, moon bounce, grills, lanterns, sporting equipment and more. Housing
Military Family Housing
The Navy and Lincoln Military Housing have entered into a Public Private Venture (PPV) partnership to provide housing for military in the Indian Head area. There are 20 historical single-family houses for Officers, and 135 Apartments that serve the needs of our enlisted service members and their families. The housing office serves all branches of the military, but primarily the US Navy and USMC.

  Families and bachelors desiring to be housed on base will be required to sign a lease with Lincoln Military Housing (PPV partner). This is a six-month lease, renewed on a month-to-month basis after the initial lease period. Lincoln provides 24-hour maintenance, yard and lawn care, monthly community activities, and a professional staff to serve your needs while living at Naval Support Facility Indian Head. • Applications
  Applications for housing should be made on an Application for Assignment to Housing (DD Form 1746) with a copy of orders and a copy of current record of emergency data or Page Two attached. Applications may be submitted by mail to Housing Welcome Center, 101 Strauss Ave., Building 1659, Attn: Government Housing, Indian Head, Maryland 20640; by fax to (301) 744-4433; or in person at the Housing Welcome Center at any time following receipt of orders. The office hours are 0730-1530, Monday - Friday.
• Housing Referrals
  The Housing Welcome Center provides a housing referral service of rental and sale property listings. These listings are available for those who desire to locate in the surrounding area. The Welcome Center also provides free home-buying workshops and an in-office realtor and lender for face-to-face information. The Navy also provides the Set-Aside program for several apartment communities in the Charles Country area.
• Pets
  Keeping cats and dogs is a conditional privilege extended to residents. Residents must comply with state and local laws governing pet ownership, including laws regarding licensing and vaccinations. The limit is two (2) dogs or cats with a weight limit of 35 lbs. The weight limit is for the apartments only. There is no weight limit for officer homes. Birds, fish, hamsters and guinea pigs will be permitted; exotic animals, such as reptiles, rodents (other than the hamsters and guinea pigs), ferrets, hedgehogs, or any farm animals are prohibited. Housing reserves the right to restrict certain breeds of dogs that are considered to be dangerous. Owners are financially and legally responsible for all pets.

Bachelor Housing
Enlisted bachelors, pay grades E-1 - E-4, reside in Building 902. Each occupant is allowed a private room equipped with a twin size bed, desk and desk chair, dresser, nightstand and walk-in closet. Each two rooms share a bathroom. All rooms are equipped with microwave, refrigerator, iron and ironing board, vacuum cleaner, coffee maker and TV.

Normal Base Entry Procedures
Personnel entering the base must show either a CAC (Common Access Card), NSASP or tenant command photo badge, or active duty º retiree º dependent military ID to gain access. Personnel wishing to enter the base who do not possess one of these cards will be directed to the Pass & ID Office. Visitors must be sponsored by either military, NSASP or tenant command personnel and process through the Pass & ID Office if not accompanied by the sponsor. At the time the Visitors Badge is requested, a valid photo ID (state operator's license) must be presented.

Alcohol
Alcohol may be consumed by persons 21 years of age and above in authorized areas only.

Firearms Registration
Personnel residing on station must register their privately owned firearms with the Law Enforcement Office. Those living in family housing may retain their firearms in their quarters. Temporary or permanent residents of the BOQ and BEQ may not store weapons in the barracks; but can make arrangements for Law Enforcement to store a weapon for them during hunting season only.

Bicycles
In accordance with base regulations, all persons riding a bicycle, rollerblading, skate boarding, etc. aboard NSF Indian Head must wear an ANSI or Snell Memorial Foundation approved helmet.

Sports
Intramural leagues, including flag football, basketball, racquetball, volleyball, softball, soccer, beach volleyball, indoor volleyball and tennis, as well as numerous 5k races are offered throughout the year.

Summer Youth Camp
Camp Tomahawk offers a summer haven for over 100 youths. This summer program provides 10 weeks of camp, offering a variety of activities such as swimming, baseball, fishing, dance, and various arts and crafts. Specialty camps have included two weeks of environmental camp, soccer, cheerleading, and softball.

Supply Operations

The Indian Head Supply Operations office of the Fleet and Industrial Supply Center Norfolk, Detachment Washington, D.C., supports all commands and activities on board Naval Support Facility Indian Head. Support includes providing supply services, planning material requirements in partnership with customers by providing supply system and industrial support expertise, and assisting in inventory management, warehousing and expediting material requirements. The Supply Operations office also manages the NSF Indian Head CHRIMP program to reduce the quantity and control the variety of hazardous materials entering the base and, ultimately the waste stream.

The NSF Indian Head Pool is an olympic-size facility open during the summer months. Swimming lessons are available for all ages throughout the summer in two-week sessions. Lap swim sessions and water aerobics classes are available. Military and civilian youth may join the Torpedos Swim Team for competition with area swim clubs. The pool's deck space and small pavilion area make an ideal rental facility for private parties and other functions. Family and single memberships are available to purchase at the pool or ITT Office.
