With a January sunrise and the Memorial Amphitheatre in the background, 10-year-old Eileen Codd of Waldorf, Md., heads toward an Arlington National Cemetery Section 13 drop-off point at the start of Jan. 25’s Wreaths Across America clean-up. Hundreds of volunteers, including Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall Command Sgt. Maj. Earlene Y. Lavender, endured sub-freezing temperatures and wind chills to remove approximately 143,000 wreaths from ANC headstones. In honor of the cemetery’s 150th anniversary this year, Wreaths Across America’s goal is to place a wreath on every grave next December.
