After receiving his fourth star March 11, Gen. John F. Campbell is sworn in as the Army's 34th vice chief of staff by Secretary of the Army John McHugh as Campbell's wife, Ann, holds the Bible. Campbell was nominated by President Barack Obama in February to succeed Gen. Lloyd J. Austin III as the second highest-ranking Army officer. In December, Obama nominated Austin to become the head of the joint U.S. Central Command, which oversees all military operations in the Middle East and Afghanistan.
