Dr. Geoffrey Eldridge, Naval Air Systems Command, recently oversaw a visit from students in St. Mary's College of Maryland's Chemistry Instrumental Analysis Class to NAS Patuxent River. During the visit, students were able to conduct tests at the Fuels and Lubricants Chemistry Laboratory. Eldridge, left, and student, Leo Carino-Herrara, review data from the Liquid Chromatograph Mass Spectrometer. This spectrometer analyzes relatively non-volatile samples such as oils. Here students learned about using LC-MS to analyze aviation turbine oils used in advanced jet engines.
