Fort Detrick employees showed their support for Breast Cancer Awareness month by joining together to walk more than 210 miles Oct. 4.

The annual Army Community Service Exceptional Family Member Program Breast Cancer walk took place at the Jennifer Odom Fitness Center outdoor track. Over 122 men, women and children participated and walked a combined total of over 210 miles during the 2-hour event.

"Although the event is not permitted to raise funds, it is a great way to raise awareness of breast cancer," said event organizer Michelle Hewitt, EFMP manager. "The event publicizes the need for breast cancer awareness and support."

"This gives the Detrick community a chance to come out amongst co-workers and friends, get some fresh air and exercise, and support a good cause," said Hewitt.

Along with walking, participants had a chance to visit vendor exhibits that provided information on diagnosis, symptoms, signs, and treatment of breast cancer.
