Summer is a great time to do things with the family, and here is a great family fun opportunity-- come out to Baker Park July 22 from 3-7 p.m. for Fort Detrick Day. The day's events will include interactive displays, exciting hands-on activities, pony rides, entertainment for children, and wonderful music by the U.S. Army Blues Band. The kids will also get to meet the Frederick Keys mascot, Keyote. And best of all, this fun is free for all families -- so bring your chairs, blankets, food and drink, and enjoy all the day has to offer!
But this isn't the only opportunity for summer activities, because we roll right along throughout the month of August. On Aug. 7, Fort Detrick will once again participate in the National Night Out, during which our community members will work with local law enforcement personnel to promote neighborhood spirit and reinforce the police-community partnership to prevent crime and violence.
On Aug. 16, everyone is invited to attend Fort Detrick Night with the Frederick Keys at Harry Grove Stadium. Come to cheer on our local Oriole ballplayers as they take on the Winston-Salem Dash! For golf fans, Aug. 26 will spotlight Military Appreciation Day at Musket Ridge Golf Club in Myersville as the LPGA's Symetra Tour makes its way through mid-Maryland! Considered the "Road to the LPGA," the Symetra Tour is world's largest international women's developmental tour, committed to developing LPGA stars of tomorrow and creating viable role models for youth. The day promises to be an exciting one for all, so make sure to get your tickets soon.
Although sports are a great way to enjoy the summer months, we must also keep in mind Fort Detrick's primary focus, which is service to our citizens and our country. In light of this, please plan to attend the Women's Equality Day event, which will be held at the Community Activities Center on Aug. 22 from 11:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. This topic remains paramount throughout our country, and our world, and it is very important that we stand together to show support for our mothers, wives, daughters, and sisters.
Continuing with the theme of service, please plan to attend the Evening of Enchantment Fort Detrick All Services Installation Ball, which will be held Aug. 25 at Hager Hall in Hagerstown, Md. The night promises to be a memorable one with great food, music and dancing, and an opportunity to spend time with loved ones, comrades, and co-workers. Tickets for this event are still available, so contact FMWR at (301) 619-2711 for more information.
Keep up your Fort Detrick pride throughout these warm summer days, and remember to stay cool!
