On Tuesday, August 7th, neighborhoods throughout Frederick including Fort Detrick have been invited to join thousands of communities nationwide for the 29th annual "National Night Out" crime and drug prevention event. National Night Out, which is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch and co-sponsored locally by the Fort Detrick Police and Fort Detrick FMWR, will involve over 15,000 communities from all 50 States, U.S. Territories, Canada and Military Bases around the world. In all, over 37 million people are expected to participate in America's Night Out Against Crime.
National Night Out is designed to: Heighten crime and drug awareness; Generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime efforts; Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and Send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back
From 5:00 pm until dusk on August 7th, residents of Fort Detrick and across the nation are asked to lock their doors, turn on outside lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors and police. Fort Detrick will be hosting a block party and cook-out at the Balfour Beatty Neighborhood Center (B-6000 Ditto Ave), along with Moon Bounces, Games, Police & Fire Department displays and K-9 Demonstrations. A Law Enforcement Youth program will have an information booth set-up along with Family Advocacy Program & Army Substance Abuse Program. A "Movie under the Stars" will be shown after dusk for your enjoyment.
This is a good night for Fort Detrick residents to stand together to promote awareness, safety and neighborhood unity. National Night Out showcases the vital importance of Police-Community partnerships and citizen involvement in our fight to build a safer nation.
