Draped in blue robes with matching caps and tassels, graduates marched past parents, siblings, friends and Family taking photographs to the tune of “Pomp and Circumstance” while friends and Family took photographs.

Around 70 children from the Cody Child Development Center’s Strong Beginnings classes graduated during a ceremony held in the Spates Community Club on Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall June 1.

“This is an extremely important day for our children as they begin a new journey,” said Lt. Col. Jennifer L. Blair, deputy joint base commander of JBM-HH. “Now, they are ready … ready to explore the world of academics.”

Each child was recognized with his or her name called to receive a diploma and pose for a photograph with Blair.

At the end of the ceremony, the children walked out to the song “I Believe I Can Fly” with their arms slowly flapping like wings. Next school year the children will begin kindergarten.

In a separate ceremony held earlier in the day, 10 children from the Part-Day Preschool program at the CDC also graduated and heard Blair speak.

“They started with a mind full of wonder and curiosity which was filled with new ideas and skills through the activities they played and the time the staff spent with the children,” said Blair.
