The Dahlgren Officers Spouses Club (DOSC) held its annual Scholarship and Charity Presentation on May 19, awarding cash donations to 24 charities and tuition assistance to five students.

A wide variety of charitable organizations received gifts at this year's ceremony. Some of the gifts included the Dahlgren School PTO, who received a donation to help fund yearbooks; the Navy Sea Cadets received funding for physical training gear; Dahlgren United Methodist Church for their Lunch Bunch Summer Food Program; and the Dahlgren Heritage Foundation to create exhibits and preserve artifacts for the planned Dahlgren Museum. Several area scout troops also benefited from the annual program, including Girl Scout Troop 3723 and Boy Scout Troop 191, based at NSF Dahlgren. Local community organizations such as King George Little League, Little Ark Baptist Church, King George County Historical Society, King George High School DECA and Potomac Elementary School PTA also received donations

The Rosemarie Blades Honorary Scholarship was awarded to five area students entering or currently enrolled in college. Recipients of the 2012 assistance were Giavanni M. Burstion, Meghan M. Geoghegan, Janet D. Phimmasone, Christian B. Vardaman, and Justin M. Vinneau.

DOSC is composed of spouses of current and retired military officers. In addition to many other activities, they operate the Second Tour Thrift Store located at 722 Sampson Road. The store is open from 9:30 a.m. - Noon every Thursday and also provides a "uniform porch" with gently used military uniform items available 24/7. The Second Tour accepts donations of gently used clothing and household goods for resale in the store.
