Officers from US Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases traveled to Gettysburg for an Officer Professional Development event May 18. The event was led by esteemed Army historian Col. Michael Bell, currently the Chancellor at the College of International Affairs in Washington, D.C. Col. Bell set the stage en route with key events that led to the Civil War, as well as attributes and anecdotes of key Union and Confederate leaders. He guided the officers around important battlefield sites, from the initial Confederate attack at McPherson Ridge, to the spirited Union defense of Little Round Top, a walk of Pickett's Charge, and a reading of Lincoln's Gettysburg Address at the Soldiers National Cemetery. USAMRIID Officers and Deputy Commander Col. Andrea Stahl presented Col. Bell with a Unit coin. They expressed their deepest appreciation.
