JOINT BASE ANACOSTIA-BOLLING, D.C. -- The Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling Barracudas Swim Team is looking for male and female swimmers ages 5-18 for the upcoming team season. The season runs through to July and practices will be held at the Base Pool Tuesdays - Fridays. Swim meets against other area swim clubs will be held on Saturdays.
Rico Bailey, sports coordinator at JBAB's Youth Center, said the team competes in the Prince Montgomery Swim League and that the Barracudas were undefeated last year in team play. That success would carry the team to its first-ever G Division championship.
"We're looking for our returning swimmers and all our new swimmers to continue a winning tradition here at JBAB," Bailey said proudly. "We had about 80 participants last year. This year we hope to have an even bigger turnout so we can compete in every age group the leagues has. That would be fantastic."
Bailey said swimmers ages 5-8 are required to swim one pool length without any assistance to be eligible for the team. The remaining age groups are asked to swim two pools length without any assistance. The cost of swim suits is not the responsibility of the Youth Center. Bailey said it's also mandatory that parents of those participating help out with swim meets during the course of the season. Current Youth Center membership and a physical are required.
Those interested in joining the JBAB Barracudas Swim Team can register up to May 25 for $50. Registration after that date will be $70. For more information, call the Youth Center at 202-767-4003.
