The 2012 Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD) Academic Fair - scheduled for Tuesday, May 15 from 12p.m.-3:00p.m. at the University of Mary Washington Dahlgren Campus - features an open-house format enabling employees to visit the annual event as their schedules permit.

"We look forward to hosting this event and reminding members of our workforce of all of the tremendous academic opportunities that they have available to them here at NSWC Dahlgren," said NSWCDD Academic Programs Manager Debbie Bardine.

This year, academic participants include: Commonwealth Graduate Engineering Program Schools - George Mason University, Old Dominion University, University of Virginia, Virginia Commonwealth University, and Virginia Tech; University of Mary Washington; Naval Postgraduate School; and Rappahannock Community College and Germanna Community College.

In addition to NSWCDD employees, active military, employees of other Naval Support Facility Dahlgren tenant commands and government contractors are welcome to attend.

"Members of the Workforce Development and Training team will be on-hand to answer questions related to basic academic benefits, policies and procedures here at NSWC Dahlgren," said Bardine.

Effective January of 2012, academic classes that were previously hosted on-base at JDs Training and Conference Center were relocated to the University of Mary Washington Dahlgren Campus, site of this year's Academic Fair.

"We hope attendees will take advantage of the opportunity to take a look around the state-of-the-art training and educational facility the day of the event," said Bardine. "Our last Academic Fair was held in the Fall of 2010. Since that time, NSWC Dahlgren has hired over 300 new employees."

Although new NSWCDD employees are introduced to academic opportunities via the Employee Familiarization Program, the Academic Fair will provide a unique opportunity for employees to ask policy and procedure questions of NSWCDD Workforce Development Training Branch representatives as well as program specific questions of the various school representatives.
